    ADODB.Field error '800a0bcd' Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has be

    Greetings Everyone,

    I will start this by saying I am not an ASP programmer. I have inherited a site that ASP built for in for ultimate frisbee summer league registration. I manage the site for them (at no cost) and turn the registration on and off each year.

    Recently I am getting the error message below. I have done some research and reading on the web and here is what I think is wrong. The code writes to an MS Access database. First, the record is there. So the error is not occurring because there is no record. Second, the access database has AUTONUMBER set for the first field. For some reason the AUTONUMBER is not starting at number 1. It is starting at number 2 or 3. So I think the error is occurring because I am the first registrant in the database but am listed as number 2.

    How can I resolve this. The code for the page that generates the error is below. If you have code suggestions please tell me exactly where to put it because of my zero knowledge of ASP technical terms.

    Thank you so much and the summer league crew will be much appreciated. You can also try registering to recreate the error if you would like to. It will require you to pay paypal $0.01. www.charlestonultimate.net

    It means that the code is "expecting" a record from the database on line 287...

    Code:
     CHECKING THIS BOX I, <strong><em><%=(RsRegister.Fields.Item("FirstName").Value)%>&nbsp;<%=(RsRegister.Fields.Item("LastName").Value)%></em></strong></font><font color="#FFFFFF">&nbsp;<font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">AGREE
    So you need to:

    a. - add code to check if a record exists, and only carry on if one does...
    b - debug to find out why no record exists for that query.

    Code:
    "SELECT * FROM register WHERE ID = " + Replace(RsRegister__MMColParam, "'", "''") + ""
    This query is returning 0 records. find out what is being fed into it....by putting this code right after it...

    Code:
    response.write RsRegister.Source
    response.end

    Thank you for your response. I have tried to make sense of what you wrote. Here is what I understand.

    -The query is looking for a record in a database and not finding it.

    Here is what I do know.

    - The database has a record in it so it should be finding the record.

    Questions:

    - Where do I add code for a. below?
    - How do I debug?

    a. - add code to check if a record exists, and only carry on if one does...
    b - debug to find out why no record exists for that query.

    Where exactly do I put the code below?

    Code:
    response.write RsRegister.Source
    response.end
    Thank you,

    check if recordset has returned anything after you open the recordset

    btw - you may have to adjust accordingly...it's just a logic demo based on your 'layout'...i really didn't feel like weeding through DW code ...

    Code:
      ' ...

      RsRegister.Open()

      'check if nothing returned

      If RsRegister.EOF Then
       bRecs = false
      Else
       bRecs = true

       ' assign variables
       ' ...
        sPayerPaypalEmail = RsRegister("PayerPaypalEmail")
       ' ...

      End If

      RsRegister.Close()
      Set RsRegister = Nothing
    %>

    <!-- form code -->

    <%
        ' If records returned then display form
        ' else display message

        If bRecs Then
    %>

    <input name="paypalemail" type="hidden" id="paypalemail" value="<%=sPayerPaypalEmail)%>">

    <%
        Else
         Response.Write "No Records"
        End If
    %>

    - The database has a record in it so it should be finding the record.
    yes, but the SQL is "limited" by a WHERE clause, so it may be searching for something where your existing record((s) do not match.

    Questions:

    - Where do I add code for a. below?you'd have to add this after you execute your sql query.. see sample below...

    put those two lines directly below your sql statement. All they will do is print out the completed sql statement on the browser, which will allow you to see exactly what it's looking for...so that you can check the DB to see if the existing records match. (which we know already, they do not )

    Code:
    response.write RsRegister.Source
    response.end
    Thank you,

    Garyrobar - thank you so much for your help.

    Here is what it returned.

    SELECT * FROM register WHERE ID = 5000

    I honestly clueless as to what this means.

    The database's (MS Access) primary key has the Auto Number property and should start at 1. We have approximately 120 register for summer league. It never reaches anywhere close to 5000.

    What is the problem here?

    Thank you so much,

    Where ID ?

    This is the code that deals with the number 5000.

    Code:
    <%
    Dim RsRegister__MMColParam
    RsRegister__MMColParam = "5000"
    If (Request.Form("item_number")   <> "") Then
      RsRegister__MMColParam = Request.Form("item_number")
    End If
    %>

    This means that you dont have any value in Request.Form("item_number")

    Thats why its not going into the If loop and hence RsRegister__MMColParam takes value as 5000 as you have assigned it.
    Why have you assigned it this value??

    I am not sure why it has this value. I inherited this code and I am trying to make it work so that individuals can register for a sport.

    Here is what is supposed to happen.

    Joe Doe registers. His information goes into a register table in the database. I believe his information is also supposed to be written into the waiver table in the database. The waiver table is not receiving this information. So, when the asp code looks for an item number in the register table it is not there.

    All of the code is in my first entry in this thread.

    I have no ASP experience which is why I am stuck.

    Thank you,
    DuBose
