windows 2000 crashing

Originally posted by : Jeff (jeff.mangan@groupsystems.com)
I have a brand spanken new server running an AMD k63 400 with 128 mb ram, and samsung 13gb HD (NTFS). Everything is working great until I decide to convert my server into a "PDC" which in Win2k requires you to install ADS and DNS on the machine. So, as I get about halfway through, the computer locks up on me at the point of "configuring active directory on local computer". I have tried to install it about 5 times and the same thing over and over again. I also have two other machines all running AMD K 6 chips (just coincidence) they all have the same problems. The funny thing is that when I take the Hard drive to work and set it up on a machine with a Pentium chip, I am able to install it no problem. Has anyone had any problems running Win2k server on a server running an AMD chip?

The only reason I am thinking this is because on one of my other machines (AMD K6 II 450mghz) I have a similar problem. You can not load Win 95 on a machine with and AMD 300+ w/out slowing down the bus on the MB down to 66mghz and then installing it, and then downloading a patch from the MS web site. Then you can put the but back up to 100 mghz. Something is telling me there is some kind of similar problem (well sort of) when trying to load ADS/DNS on win2k.
Anyone experience this yet? I have searched the MS web site for AMD and Windows 2000 and have not found anything.

Jeff
