you probably have virus/worm/spyware causing this... windows explorer ussually work fine. download those programs to check for worms:
http://www.download.com/3302-8022_4....html?pn=2&fb=2 http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ both not perfect, but combined toghether might find more worms. if you really want alternative to the Window Explorer, you have plenty: http://www.google.co.il/search?num=...ive&btnG=Search ![]() |

Well there's always my favorite 'windows explorer' it runs very fast and not buggy at all.
Click on Start, then Run type cmd into the command line and click ok Boy that command prompt works great every time ![]() Serisoulsy though I've never seen a problem with windows explorer unless the system was being overtaxed by something else.

You could try 2xExplorer (http://www.netez.com/2xExplore) - used to be free...not sure if it still is!

There's more to Windows than just Explorer
There's: "NT Kernel" "Windows Windowing System" "Explorer Desktop" "Explorer Browser" ...In that order, they rely on the one above them The Kernel is *the* system, don't touch it! The Windowing System is the bit that manages windows and all that malarky, its what defines each Window's shapes, common controls, title bar, borders, etc... You can get "WindowBlinds" for Windows that augments the windowing system, however it doesn't fully replace it The Explorer Desktop is the "desktop" you see, along with the taskbar, the alt-tab screen, and other numerous thingiemabobs. You can get alternate task managers too, the main ones being OpenStep and BlackBox clones There's also a number of 3D task-managers, the finest example being SphereXP you may have also heard of Microsoft's attempt at 3D task managing, with "TaskGallery" but it isn't exactly aesthetically pleasing Finally, there's Explorer itself ...Presently the Explorer file manager and web-browser combo is combined with the Explorer task manager And yes... there are alternates to this as well, you can write your own in any high-level language thesedays, even VisualBasic, but don't expect the best performance... Optimised C++ is always faster ![]() |

I thought progman.exe was available even through XP, but I can't get it to run on my XP computers. It does give me a good Windows 3.1 flashback on my W2000 server though
