Good evening all,
I'm rather new to asp, and would like to put a forum on my webpage. I'm using web wiz forums lite and running xp home. the problem is that when i follow the instructions and try to launch the forum, IE wants to download it rather than open and display. What's going on? all of the other places i have checked haven't covered this problem and IT at work hasn't got a clue. Please Help! |

IIS is not available for XP Home. If you have any web server at all on XP Home it's not IIS and probably doesn't do ASP.
I suspect web wiz forum requires IIS to work right. XP Pro is one answer.

Thanks for the advice Doug,
I think I forgot to mention that I'm using a free web-hosting service that comes with my email, not trying to run it off of my pc at home. Will I still need IIS to do this? Thanks again , Jeff |

You would probably want to test your pages, before uploading them to your host, so without IIS you wouldn't be able to test them locally.
You would have to upload them, then test them. |

So, for clarification,
even though i'm not running a forum from my pc but rather on a free site, which supports asp pages, i need IIS installed on my pc so that i can develop them, view them and upload them. is that correct? i currently have no problems viewing other asp pages on other sites, but when IE asks me to download or open my admin asp pages. Going slightly nuts with this asp stuff, Jeff |

No, you would only want IIS installed on your pc if you wanted to test them.
You can still develop them and upload them. Assuming you have the necessary tools to do so. |

Gotcha!
I think i've figured it out, i was reading in a php forum and discovered that the symptoms that i have are caused by my server not having turned on my asp/php settings for my webspace. Thanks again for all of your help and guidance, (I'm sure I'll need more in the future thought) Jeff |
