ASPFree.com and Misc Stuff

Hi all faithful ASPFree visitors,

This hopefully will explain to all the regular viewers what's happening at ASPFree.com, if your a first time visitor welcome! Many have sent me an email saying "What happened to ASPFree.com, more bluntly W.T.F. happened!?" It's pretty obvious major changes are happening at the ASPFree.com. Over the last 4 years, my little hobby website grew into a leader in the ASP/ASP.NET community attracting tens of thousands daily visitors. On June 21, 2003 - ASPFree celebrated it 4th anniversary of existence. An arrangement for Jonathan Caputo and his staff to takeover day-to-day management of ASPFree.com. They will be in charge of everything that happens with ASPFree.com from now on. The biggest benefit all I have to worry about is contributing what makes a site really special - CONTENT. All the other stuff which sucked my time is being handled by Jonathan and company. I'm still going to contribute content, links, tip-tricks as I always have but without having to worry about all the crap it takes to run a content website. Please welcome Jonathan and company by providing any comments in the updated forums

Words cannot express how the loyal following that has came from ASPFree.com. For those who aren't aware, my day job is a full-time administrator. I've been the sole person behind ASPFree.com doing everything or at times, the lack of doing. This takes an enormous amount of time and for being a hobby: nights, weekends, holidays are the only times making the site go! This takes away from other interests and more importantly my family. My three very active boys are demanding my time and attention , I'm going to be there for them, period. I've achieved the original goals for aspfree -

1. Give back to the ASP community and provide an environment to share experiences so others wouldn't have to struggle when first starting out.
2. An environment to enhance my own development skills.

Some tough choices had to be made, turning over ASPFree.com is one of them. In the long run things will be better, living in Internet time the last 4 years has been at times breath taking. Things like ASPFree.com being taken over will be forgotten in a couple of months anyway, however the relationships will endure. I'd personally like to thank Rob Howard, Scott Guthrie, Eric Olson to name a few from Microsoft, Steve Smith ( ASPAlliance.com ), Crazy party boys at Dotnetjunkies.com (Doug and Donny), Dave Wanta (123aspx.com, ASPNetEmail creator), Robert Chartier - SOAP guru (Santra.com), Charles Carroll (Learnasp.com), Stephen Wynkoop (sswug.org), Scott Mitchell (4guysfromrolla.com), Brad Kingsley and crew (Orcsweb.com - hands down the best hosting company anywhere!), the many authors who contributed content and anyone else I've forgotten!

In closing, I'm proud to part of something that started from nothing and grew to have almost 500,000 monthly visitors. A big part of ASPFree.com success comes from being a member of a very powerful development community. It's humbling at the thought people see ASPFree.com as place to get help. I'm awed the articles, content published on other websites and almost makes me embarrassed at times so many people find the information published on ASPFree useful. This has been a wonderful experience and something I will always remember.
Sincerely,

Excellent - thanks for the formal Steve.

Regarding the articles and such, there are still quite a few that are not moved to the new site yet. We are working extremely hard to get all the data moved - we hope to have all data moved to the new site in the next few days.

In the e-mail messages I received about the change, there were 2 passwords included. The first one didn't work, the second one did. It might be confusing people when the password doesn't work the first try and they might not have noticed the second one. For reference to what I mean, below is a copy of one of the e-mail's I received (with the passwords changed of course)

Wow - I actually sent the mail twice because I thought there was a problem with the first one I sent. But that is wierd that one of the passwords didn't work. Again, thanks for the heads up...

Yep, I got it both times. BTW.. The "From" field in the e-mail looks rather funky..

1st email : ASPFree.comMIME-Version : 1.0@ltf104.chi.us.siteprotect.com <ASPFree.comMIME-Version : 1.0@ltf104.chi.us.siteprotect.com>; ASPFree.com@ltf104.chi.us.siteprotect.com <ASPFree.com@ltf104.chi.us.siteprotect.com>

2nd email : webmaster@aspfree.com <webmaster@aspfree.com>; webmaster@aspfree.com <webmaster@aspfree.com>

(Yes, they were repeated 2x in each message)
