I admit, I am not a citizen of the United States, but surly those of you who are must see he seems to be the greater of two evils.
I think that if Canada was voting, kerry would have won by a landslide, BUT we are not. I guess I am just curious as to why you voted Bush (or didn't). Personaly, I was very naive in believing movie propoganda (until I visited a WHACK of anti-Moore sites and learned many truths) but I still think Kerry would have been a better choice. Obviously this is personal opinion, and I am simply posting this thread to try and spark some type of debate on this issue. USA...Canada...Timbucktoo...everyone was watching this election, and I think the majority were shocked that Bush won by such a margin. Was there cheating involved? Please post post-election comments/thoughts/cheating theories...

add Israel to your list of "everyone was watching this election"...
![]() well, that wasn't such big shock. the polls clearly showed that Bush is leading over Kerry in some percentages all along. True that his rivals made much more noise - but it's ussually like this - the underdog side make more noise in (sometimes despreate) try to draw attention and influence the naive majority. facts are facts.... Bush is in powerful position and has achieved great power in key locations (meaning the right people are loyal to him in the right places) and also many citizens are tired of revolutions and want only to keep things as they are now.... Kerry sounds like something unknown, so they prefer to stick with the familiar situation - maybe not perfect situation but you must admit USA is doing quite well in general. cheat? nah... Bush may be not smart in some aspects, but he's not THAT stupid... the risk of being discovered cheating overwhelms any possible gain. bottom line, you think Bush is going to be good for ASP or bad for ASP in general? ![]() |

Why of course he will be good for ASP. Never before have I seen so many web sites pop up over night.
Did Bush wear a wire during the first debate? Did polling machines have votes on them before voting began? (Republicans do own 3/4 of those machines) Maybe cheated was not the right word then. How about Intimidation. The wrong type of Intimidation from the Kerry side. Idiots like P-Diddy telling people to vote or die. And Bush, inching that precious terror alert ever higher each day before the election. I just think the Daily Mirrors headline said it best... "How can 56,054,087 people be so DUMB" |

reminds me of the book I'm now reading... The Gods Themselves by the legendary Asimov, where humanity almost kills itself because of its ignorance. the book chapters go like this: Against stupidity, the Gods themselves, struggle in vain?. (in this order with those names exactly) so true, so powerful... Asimov was really genius, in many aspects. it was his FIRST book!!

Just my opinion...US Illinois
Its interesting to hear the views of others outside of the US. I voted for Kerry. Why...Democrats in general embrace 'technology', he wanted to fix our deficit (which is outrageous), he wanted to fix Social Security...Bush plan to give people chance to invest that money in stocks?...thats a plan for disaster...how savvy do you think these people are to corporate profiteering., he wants to mend our standing in the world and build alliances with countries we alienated in Europe, he wants to fix health care (which by the way is taken care of by the govt. in Canada..i envy you on that), he was a Vietnam vet like myself who saw real action and sees similarities with this self-made Iraq quagmire as do I...but the 'moral' religious right of this country gave the president a second term. I tried and will continue to try but the whole thing is rather discomforting and makes you want to forget about this flawed political process....hey in Illinois we voted overwhelmingly for Kerry..our state was called very early...i cant figure out how the rest of the midwest has changed so drastically in my life time...hey these are just my opinions and i still love this country and its a great place to live and im now retired, have land, money, health care...but i am concerned for those who are less fortunate...oh by the way I do some volunteer IT work for the State...just for fun...thks for letting me vent...seeya.

Asimov is one of my all-time favorites, but for zinger quotes I can think of no one better than Mark Twain.
"In religion and politics, people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second hand, and without examination." Mark Twain "Suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself." Mark Twain

Ahhh yes. The health care issue. I think this is the only time citizens of the U.S. would rather freeze in igloos with us hockey players, than pay the outragious medical bills. I understand people were even crossing the Vancouver border to obtain the flu shot. I have always actually wondered what makes Canadian gov't able to do this. (I suppose it was taken from our army surplus budget...lol)
This author you guys are talking about...I have never heard about him before. What is he most famous for? |

perhaps if we quit spending so much on Iraq and Afganastan....we could build a health care model like you guys.

Isaac Asimov was one of the greatest authors ever imho, mostly sci-fi. As GazouTG mentioned, he pretty much invented the word ROBOT.

nope... that word wasn't his invention but rather of some polish guy, can't remember who exactly - surely google search will reveal it.
but he was the one to give life and meaning to the term ROBOT indeed. ![]() |

cool Thanks,
This is a very funny political cartoon I read in the paper yesterday. Every one from Canada should get a laugh out of it. (hopefully it works with out the picture) **A canadian couple is sitting watching TV** Man to wife - "How can Americans be so dumb! Why would you elect someone you know is evil and corrupt?" TV - "Tonight: We look at the Liberal party. 10 Years of scandles" at least you may get a good laugh out of that GazouTG. I know I did. Last edited by mathew_conte : November 5th, 2004 at 07:26 AM. |

I live in Missouri and although I am not fond of Bush, I did vote for him in this election.
Why, you ask? Because I expect him to finish what he started. I refuse to allow him to start a war on terror and then have it passed off to someone else. I voted for him because he has unfinished business and I expect him to follow through with what he started. |
