capabilities of asp/asp.net

Hi,

ive never used asp or asp.net before and im just wondering about their capabilities.If anyone can offer any advice id appreciate it.
what im planning to do is design a way for people to create a CV so that they specify the layout and
then my code does the rest, e.g. the person chooses a font,txt size,backgound colour etc and types in their details and my code does all the layout-sort of like a wizard..ive been told that jsp and java are better for graphics and things like that but i find jsp pretty hard.This may be a really stupid question but can i do that type of thing with asp or asp.net?

1) The capabilities of ASP.NET far exceed the capabilities of standard ASP.

2) Yes, you can do what you are wanting to do in either.

3) JSP and Java are not better at graphics than any other language.

i was hoping you'd say that
just one more question,would you recommend(with me being a beginner to both) learning asp first and then moving onto asp.net?
or could i just start on asp.net itself

ASP and ASP.NET are quite different.
Learn which ever technology you are going to create the application in.

start with ASP.NET as knowing classic ASP is not an advantage for leaning ASP.NET and sometimes it just make it harder to learn, as the concepts are different and can be confusing.
