You rock! I am a Stryper fan from way back when! Did you see them in the re-union concert? I missed them! Ugh!

Together...forever...

Both shows...and got to meet them...my brother won the backstage passes...so I got to chat with each member...a dream come true...I have listened to them ever since soldiers...
My wife loved the shows too...but is more of an Aerosmith fan...
they still had it...then here, one of my wife's friends from Highschool, works at the silver diner...and waited on Robert and Tim...when she found out they were stryper, she was like " My best friend's husband is so into you..."so they sent me an autograph through her...
anyway...They are still my favorite...I have a guitar I plan on having repainted to a stryper yellow and black, and I am temted to put a yellow strip or two in my black Yamaha BX-1...
I used to email back and forth with Tim Gains...right after he played on Tourniquet's Crawl to China cd...he and Ted Kirkpatrick are amazing at writing back and keeping you in their prayers...as are the Supertones...
Living Sacrifice and Zao are(were) really nice too...

I have a problem when bands are all high on themselves and treat people with less respect because...they are stars...

Ok...I don't want to sound like I stalk bands...I worked for Bryan Kemper at Rock For Life...so thats how I met most of them...
Sonny of POD is really nice...the guys in Five Iron F are great as are Relient K...

I heard that the guys from POD and the crew that works with them are just real cool people. I use to listen to Overkill and bands like that. Blitz, Overkill's lead singer was on the side of the stage during a guitar solo and I reached out my hand to him and he shook it and gave me the thumbs up. I don't agree with some of their lyrics anymore, but I know he is a cool customer. Man, you chat with Tim and those others...cool! Are you in a band? I am looking to possibly do some projects after the new year. Interested?

Thoughts About CCM

Nice new look for the site. I just read this article about the history of CCM and towrds the end it raised a point which you may have heard before. That today's Christian Music has become too commercialized and that the message of Christ has been watered down at best. You can view the essay at
http://www.angelfire.com/ca2/frogpr...ry/history.html

I think that there has been some cases of compromise, but I don't think that has become the rule. I come from a traditional Pentecostal background where they have more of an "in-your-face" approach to the gospel. So I have a pretty good idea of what some traditionalists feel about contemporary means of evangelizing. But what do you think about the state of Christian music today? Do you think that we have reached the point where we are willilng to sacrifice the gospel message in favor of financial gain? And what about the influence of secular labels? As Christian music has gained in popularity and sales, larger labels are buying them up and are having an influence on some of the music that we hear.

I have to disagree on some things written here. First, the Christian music industry in many ways has been about profits since go! Some bands/artists that have a clear, "in your face" message as far as lyrics go, actually have little concern about where that messages goes. Some bands are Christians and don't "preach" much at all if at all and want to help others come to Christ. How is that possible? Remember that being a good disciple is mostly being a good example, but there is a point to where you have to tell people about Christ. When those guys get home and go into the community and someone asks them about their music, then that is the moment that determines what they live for. Do they just talk music, or do they lead into a life saving conversation? It is a toss up, no matter who is singing, they are in a tough industry that can very well try to undermine the message. There is a need to have a good message and rock hard, and not push Christ on people, but to be a good example and work a loving image of a Christ into the CD some where so that people can see God is powerful in his love for those who go to him. But, I think artists need to intelligently do this so people don't think Christians have their heads stuck in a cloud and there is a reality that we face every day. There are bands who do this, but not many.

The music industry as a whole is pretty brutal. Do you see a difference in the Christian and mainstream music industries? I imagine that the differnces would be pretty clouded since many Christian labels are owned by larger general market labels who are more concerned about sales than they are about souls. Also, the Dove Awrds are coming up in April. What do you think about the Doves and the GMA?

Dove awards

I think the DOve awards are good encouragement, but I think that some artists are way to show-offish, I don't know, I don't really have too much of an opinion about it yet...

It's been pretty quiet over here. How was Mothers' Day? Just thought I'd check in and see how everybody is doing. I just finished re-wiring one of my Strats so that I get a slightly different pick-up switching than the stock wiring. It didn't quite work like I wanted, but it does give an interesting sound. Maybe in a few weeks I'll open it back up and see if I can get it work like I had hoped.
