Combining Ant Behavior/Personality for the Ultimate Search Engine
Oh the heck with the Private Members section. What I wanted to share with you all is the perfect search engine (imo
).Nature has provided us with a spectacular insect called ANTS! They survive and thrive without leadership. What they follow are simple rules that, as you can see, has made them the pesky insects that they are. Damn it, reminds me of how annoying it was to get rid of them. Anyway, they have some unique aspects that, I believe, would help the search engine world tremendously. Their strategy for searching and gathering food is perfect, but instead of food, humans are searching for INFORMATION. So why not copy our little friends, seeing as they are so successful with it. Ants use their natural ability to find food and determine if it's good or not. If it is, they'll attract other ants to go get the food that they have discovered. This can be done online for humans.... For humans on the Internet, here's how the search engine will determine if something is good for a certain user. Personality. I think by having a large database of different types of personalities, searches will cater to a certain person (w/ a certain personality). Using this data and adapting the search engine to work like an ant colony, the search engine will give search results more accurate than ever. How do we do it? Create a browser that will track/send information about user browsing habits and the search engine will "learn" the person's personality. Afterwards, the search engine will use it's database of personalities to give search results THAT user wants. Problems: 1) User privacy. 2) Manipulation will be easy since information will be gathered "outside." Ok, there, who wants to help me develop this thing later Thoughts? Suggestions?Last edited by IcoN512 : July 17th, 2007 at 11:42 AM. |

I don't think it will work..
Let's say that I don't mind people gather info about me.. I do, but let's say I don't.. If you see what I'm searching for.. I might search from Einstein's relativity to gay sex.. You can't conclude anything about my personality from what I'm searching for. And the other problem is the misunderstanding. For example, yesterday I was looking for "saint Paul" which is a beach but you are probably gonna conclude by this that I'm religious..

Good points. However, the personality portion is only as a guideline as to what search results the search engine will return. Keywords are still the main play here. What I'm suggesting is a system that will give a higher percentage of results that the user wants to see. If "saint Paul" comes up with religious stuff, "saint paul beach" will remedy that problem. However, someone more religious will find the hits very accurate. Again, the search engine keeps learning what YOU search for and will modify the results accordingly. |

Could you explain how your idea would give any different results to say putting "saint paul beach" into google?
For example, DR has put in "saint paul beach". She finds a brilliant site that for some unknown reason appears on page 20 of google. This then generates a personality based on anyone who likes going to the beach?? I then type in "beach" as my search term. Are the results that I see based on this personality that DR has created?? Why would I want to see results about Saint Paul beach?? I just don't understand the concept. Sorry, maybe you could explain with an example. And, just to clarify, are you talking about a whole new browser or a search engine?

Nope, you will not get results for the personality she created. The search engine will have a database with basic personality profiles. As people search, it will modify/add/delete the personality profiles (which will require a very advanced algorithm). The browser is there to just collect the data. It's the only way, unless, user data is collected on an ip-by-ip basis, but that presents some problems as well. When a user goes to this search engine, the search engine will recognize it's him, and pull up that person's "related" personality profile to make search results for him/her. |

Ok, saint Paul was just an example. Seriously, I have searched about gay sex and I'm not gay, for whips and I'm not kinky, for amphetamines and I'm not taking drugs, for pedophiles and.. no comments! According to this I'm a drug addicted, kinky gay pedophile.. I mean, I mostly use search engines not to find things relevant to me. Don't most people do that? ![]() |

LOL. I forgot to mention, the number of times you search for something is a large part of the factor. I sure know I search for more "programming" and "computer-related" things than something like um, gay sex, amphetamines, or pedophiles. ![]() |

As for the frequency, ok it's a step but.. Example from me again: The previous month I was searching for a rapist that police arrested in my neiborhood after he raped 4 women. So I made, I don't know how many combinations, (20? 30?) with the word "rapist"(combined with the area, the age, the town etc) in order to find info about him. So? Am I a rapist? ![]() |

I think you answered your question yourself. Frequency is very important, and I'm sure you won't be searching "rapist" every day for even 3 days straight. Your usual searches will more than compensate. And that brings up another point, the engine may learn that you are say a "protective" person (not a rapist) and somehow relate search results to that. Edit: btw, I'm loving the feedback! Keep it coming! ![]() Last edited by IcoN512 : July 17th, 2007 at 01:13 PM. |
