What gets me is why people were taken back by the change at all.

I mean, how would it have been difference if you'd been warned about it, say, 24 hrs in advance? You didn't have to pack up and leave your house ffs, a small image was changed. How do you "prepare" yourself to make that kind of transition? Yoga? Meditation? Packing supplies? What difference could it make, you see the same thing either way, and it takes the exact same amount of time for your brain to process it. The only difference is whether it took you by surprise or not.

And, realistically, the change would still take most people by surprise. Most people don't log into a forum and carefully look for new announcements everywhere before browsing any of the threads.

When the belts were origonally instanciated, people complained. The admins have since taken time to change the images to be more tasteful.

The complaining I've about the new image change is beyond me. Had the admins introduced these new images first rather than having the intermediate belts stage, I don't think they would have been met with half the problems they did when they introduced the belts (origonally) or when they changed them just now....

who cares if the get upset or not, its not our place to say if they are or aren't being silly abt it - it would be alot better if we all just kept our mouths shut on this topic..

each to their own..

showing our personal opinion must be allowed. each and his/her own
beliefs, each and his/her own thoughts and point of view.

in this issue there are two kinds of people: those who care for change
and those who don't care. I respect both kinds the same and expect
everyone to do the same. thanks.

Hello ASPfree people, i will comment on some previous posts because i feel involved and maybe the cause into this issue. In life i'm very honest in what i say. Everything i feel or think, i will say.

First for the members which do not understand what the heck is going on.
The belt system at ASPfree forum was for me like a goal in life. Every time a new belt color was reached then everybody was excited also me. Everybody knows a black belt (highest) degree is reached with 2500 posts. Ok, at that moment you can think; lets post some nonsense in the lounge or just give a general answer in the development section to increase post count, so the black belt is earned soon enough. So in this way it isn't that exciting to get black belt, but thats never been my aim here in the forum. During the last months black belt was approaching and 200 posts were left to earn this king of belts (LOL). In my opinion getting this black belt was just a perfect goal for me and a programming knowledge level indicator for others. Lets be honest about it, i pressume all people who have black belt on this forum like SW, Doug, Nofriends, RF and so on were feeling pretty happy when they earned the king of belts.

People do have to understand that having a goal, doesn't matter what goal it is, is human and for some people is giving them a drive to perform better or being happy in life. Unfortunately 2 people on this forum are not understandable enough in this issue and just disagree on my goal which i described above. Luckily the rest of the people do not have an opinion or just stay out of the conversation.

To refer to SW and PWS posts:
Quote:
Moderators exists to aid and help the admins by keeping the order and peace
in the forums
In general this is true so i agree with you SW but therefore i don't recon Chief as a mod, because disagreeing on someones goal in life as i descibed above has nothing to do with keeping the order.
When we want to optimize this forum and being the best on the net, then i also have to agree with PWS
Quote:
annoying, unharmonic and downright childish - stripped of their so-called overseer status

I'm feeling down about
Quote:
PWS1970 OUT!
We just lost another good and honest member / contributer. This is not the purpose of ASPfree where people help each other over and over again! This must be clear to everybody now.

As SW said,
Quote:
as for Sep he's nothing here and we all better just ignore his comments.
i also agree with that..he's just an occasional member with no status or ever being really helpfull, comes in and just disagrees with some stolen quote from a film on my goal in life.

Ok, now i quit this post. Nobody is expected to react on this post.. its just to relieve some thoughts from my melting brain.
See you later.

Leuv.

Okay, I can understand your having a personal goal of attaining Black Belt... I did, too, as I approached it in one of the other forums. But I think having an apoplectic fit over a slight change in the system is just a little overkill.

If attaining an icon to attach to one's name in an internet forum is a life-goal, then it is my polite suggestion that one hasn't much of a life beyond the monitor, and that is truly sad.

So you had a setback...change your goal to obtaining the next star, with the ultimate prize being the fancy gold medallion.

I submit that you as a programmer have all the respect you rate from the regulars who interact with you in the forums, regardless of how many (or few) posts you have.

Having a black belt or gold medallion isn't going to get you a girl, a pay raise or even a free cup of coffee. Being highly respected throughout a community will gain you valuable contacts, some lifelong friends, and possibly some work.

If your ego's stability is rated on the opinon of a program database, then I'm thinking you need some serious help.
