DevShed Members
I have apparently upset a couple of members (Sepodati and cybersaga) over on the DevShed forums. I was doing what I generally do, which is try to attack peoples sites. If I can then I reply stating their site isn't secure, which if they want to know how I attacked it, they can PM me.
However, after posting 2 replies in two different threads, that the sites were vulnerable to attack, I was called a ****ing idiot, by one of their moderators. I was then given "Disagree" negative reputation points and told I should watch what I say, because Quote:
I find it ironic that I do the exact same thing here, and always recieve PM asking how I attack and how these attacks can be prevented. Yet, I'm called a ****ing idiot by the moderator of this forums, sister site...nice courtesy and professionalism!...I think I'll just stick with ASPFREE, and leave DEVSHED to the power hungry moderators over there. (Except for attacking sites posted in the "Website Critiques" forum of course!) Anyway, you can view the threads (both with arguments and just the threads of the sites I was able to attack) below. 1st Thread http://forums.devshed.com/t282603/s.html 2nd Thread http://forums.devshed.com/t281483/s.html 3rd Thread http://forums.devshed.com/t277039/s.html 4th Thread http://forums.devshed.com/t270084/s.html 5th Thread http://forums.devshed.com/t273025/s.html |

A couple of points to make here.
If I were a moderator on said forum and some with 0.0014% of the posts I have made just posts "You site is not secure." I would feel like "wtf, who are you to go around making these claims on my forum". Respect is not immediately transferred from forum to forum. Going to a place like DevShed I'd presume you have to earn their respect by not making comments that could be assocciated with a 13 year old hacker. Its quite clear that if you had a couple of thousand more posts then you would be treated on a level and you veiws would be respected. But being new to a forum you have to first show them your not a 13 year old hacker before they trust you. However I do feel that if you had posted "You site is not secure. PM for details and solution." it would be a thousand times better. Sorry if I'm completely wrong, I only quickly glanced through the threads Last edited by Black&White : August 21st, 2005 at 02:39 AM. |

I was flamed there as well - really not used to that kind of people. I keep my distance from the Lounge since then, I want nothing with some of the moderators there. it's hard to earn respect in there, that's for sure.....

B&W, i kind of agree with u!
u have to earn respect everywhere u go!! but Memnoch, it shudnt effect u......... if they didnt understand ur motives, then its their fault. Their statements cannot undermine ur calibre. Sometimes a help is not appreciated when its not asked for! But helping noobies like me have earned u such huge respect here. We have a saying - Barking dogs cannot deter an Elephant's stroll!! i feel sorry for Devshed.......... they dont know what they r losing!! |

I agree that sometimes you have to establish yourself on a forum before giving some strong advice but if i had posted a site for testing i would take all the advice given. Ok maybe i would check it out with someone more experience if it came from an un established source but i would still consider it.
As for the moderator. I don't think that is how a mod should behave regardless of what the member has done. Mods are there to help the forum run and keep it flowing but they are also there to set an example. But as has been said, their loss and our gain! Devshed has changed and i no longer bother too much about the lounge there although i do post in the PHP Development area a bit. But here is far more friendlier! DevShed has just grown too big now i think!! |

Quote:
1) It's not their forum, anymore then this forum is mine or Shadow Wizards. I assist in answering questions, I'm not paid, I don't own the site, etc... Quote:
2) Post count doesn't not relate proportionately to respect level. If an answer or comment is made that is true, it should be respected, regardless who it came from or how many posts they have made. 3) Having a moderator call someone a ****ing idiot is not the way to keep members. I would never behave that way, and I would never allow another member on here to behave that way. 4) They obviously have the mentality over there that, those with the higher post count or those that are moderators should be the only ones making "Respectable" comments. Granted my initial post was not detailed, but it wouldn't have prevented a curious person from PM'ing me with questions. He has since apologized for his behavior. However, I think calling someone a ****ing idiot is far from acceptable, regardless of the persons post count. There are varying degrees of respect, this should have been a matter of common courtesy. This is the internet though, I doubt you, me or anyone else would just call a complete stranger a ****ing idiot, based on a comment that person made, but on here we can hide behind a username and talk all the smack in the world without fear of retribution, other than getting banned. This is the environment that allows 98 lb weaklings to bark like pitbulls, without fear of being challenged. |

Why don't you thake your own advice and quit barking like a pitbull? Instead of publicly ragging on a sister devshed site because of one post, why don't you PM sepodati and see if you two can work things out off-line?

You made 1 slightly poor post and they totally over-reacted, why can you not just leave it at that and forget about it?

I think if you had tried to make a helpful post and it had come across wrong and you got the same reaction then you would be a little dissapointed and pi**ed off too, and would wanna release some steam amoungst friends!! |
