FM Radio stations range from 88.9 to 107.9 MHz... AM Radio station from 600 to 1500 KHz, portable phones at 900 MHz 66MHz and other frequencies and TVStations from 70 to 200 MHz (I believe). Each device has a limited spectrum of frequencies it's allowed to broadcast in, in order to keep the airwaves clean. You wouldn't want an advertising broadcast over your cell phone. so its strictly regulated. Well the Frequencies reserved for TV stations are low enough frequencies to still get good range, but high enough to transfer large amounts of data. If the TV companies were to lease out this spectrum for the next year and a half (since they have to give it up soon) other companies could buy that to do some large scale testing of technology in this frequency and have the first reliable devices out when the spectrum gets sold in early 2006, Is any of this making sense? -MBirchmeier |

I get it now, thanks birch -
I think that sounds like a pretty good idea. Additional source of revenue && a catalyst for R&D within the tech sector. Overall, it's interesting to me that television has taken the route of the US car Companies; that is, failing to adapt. Now I'm not talking about the cable companies and such; rather, I'm referring to the television station. We should have 24 hour Internet Television networks sprouting up already / Years ago. Soon enough, all our DVRs and smart TV components are going to fuse into a TVcomputer (if it hasn't already). It frustrates me when I see big business with the blinders on b/c I'm not all that smart. |

The biggest reason tv stations have resisted this change, is by changing they can no longer broadcast to traditional TV's without cable or satelite, and there's no way of effectively knowing what percentage of their viewership that is.
This is why TV companies are fighting against the change. Personally I'm not too worried about it, but then again I don't watch TV... so i'm probablly in the minority. -MBirchmeier |
