Page 3 - Duty Calls

The Selective Service is just a contingency against a war-time required draft. The American Armed Forces are all volunteer.

Despite popular opinion, the Draft is not being reinstated, nor is it desired by anyone, particularly the Military Services-- it's difficult enough "militarizing" the people who willingly sign up without having to deal with the issues brought on by involuntary accessions.

Every American individual wearing a uniform who is currently in a war zone has signed a paper or two acknowledging that they may have to go into harm's way, be it with regular active service or reserve component, that they may be called up without advance notice.

If it came down to it though, I can't imagine much of a fight being put up with nail varnish and a nail file.

nice to know all this, it makes lots of sense. if only this was the state of things in my place, lots of ppl would have been much more happy. but on the other hand, this forced army service became integral part of the life here, much like school.


hmm... she would fight by screaming at her enemy until they surrender. this is very useful method of attack!

and it wud b highly non-violent as well

It only made sense when your country was founded, and then the necessity was reinforced by the six-days war, I feel. Personally, I know quite a few brats here in the US who could use a little toughening up (and a huge reality-check) with some mandatory time in uniform.

I know exactly what you mean... problem here is that such brats are usually not getting recruited, they cause too many problems. we used to have special program for them, but it's closed now due to lack in funds. :/
as for necessity, it's a must-be as long as we're surronded by enemies, and nowdays we must have strong army more than ever, having internal war which to be honest, is way more dangerous than any war we had before.

I feel that the right thing is being done and you all deserve much more credit than is allotted because of all the terrorist acts and controversies surrounding this issue. I have never served in the military but my brother currently does. The pride he shows of his work even while all this madness goes on in the world is enough to make me willing to stand up if the call was ever made. Your efforts are appreciated

ok... my last post here. as departure gift I'll explain how to add random drawing to your own signature using the code I written - it quite simple:
1. create ASP page called aspfree_sig.asp with such code:

2. save the page on ASP host and add this to your signature:

3. the querystring format is pretty straightforward: give unique name to the final image that would be created, give amount of colors and each color in RGB value. the above will produce 2 colors image with brown and orange.
