On a single computer you can use the hosts file. I have many many entries in mine like

127.0.0.1 www.somewhere.com
127.0.0.1 www.somewhereelse.com

etc.

This trick is even used by some virus/spyware authors to block connections to microsoft.com, symantec.com and other sites. I use this mostly to block annoying signature images in this and other forums, and some ad sites like doubleclick.com

that's true for companies where you block your workers, but in
this case he's talking about friend - most probably that friend
own the computer, thus he's administrator.

yeah indeed he is!! I could setup individual user accounts for the kids as that is who is it meant to protect, but they will work around it...

I have got to set him up a network so i haev ordered a netgear router and we are gunna try that.
