Free or Low cost Image and HTML Editors
Hi
I know this has probabliy been talked about before, and I know there was a really good thread with a full list of these packages about 5 years ago but I'll be dambed is I can find it. Anyway due to the VISTA updates, my old versions of Flash and Dreamweaver don't work, and I am looking to use a cheaper alternative, so if you can recommend any HTML editors and Image editing packages that are free or relatively cheap it would be very much appriciated. I have tried GIMP for images and I didn't like it. Thanks in advance.

Why don't they work? I used DW MX8 on Vista for a while and
have recently updated to CS3 and had no issues. You could use something like TextPad or SciTE or NotePad++ as an editor. For image editing, I think Jasc offer a free trial of Paint Shop Pro that never expires. Well, at least they did last time I installed it - no idea when that was - I only use PhotoShop now.

Aren't Flash and DreamWeaver pretty expensive to just give up like that? Obviously you would have had to pay for them already.
Not sure what type of development you're into, but Microsoft offers Visual Web Developer for free. It's main use is for ASP.Net, but you could easily use it for HTML and CSS documents. As for image editing, I'm a hardcore Fireworks fan, but that costs money. Don't know of any freebies, myself.

Hi
Thanks, standard notepad ec are a little two basic, I like the split screen function on DW, and I like FW but have have downloaded paint.net and although seems good for now, isn't the most streamline of packages. I have the Macromedia Suite MX4 but for some reason it won't even load off the menu, I rang Adobe to look into getting a new one and they were less than helpfull, on top of which you can buy the US version at almost a third less than the UK version, bizzare, and they have no support for small businesses wanting to use the program without the large amounts for available finance. I don;t need any of the bells and whistles all i want is DW FW and indesign, and they don't make it easy. I don;t think it will be long before FW is discontinued as it is hardly available in the Adobe Suits compared to Photoshop. I am trying NVU but does have a split screen functon and I don;t think it supports asp but I will have to see. Thanks for the help. |
