Goodbye, My Friends.
Ladies and Gents:
It is with a hint of sadness that I make this announcement. I began coming to these forums long before I ever took a full time position at Developer Shed. I recently made the decision to leave Developer Shed and pursue other opportunities. I decided to remain a moderator on Dev Hardware and here in the Windows Scripting forum. I also had plans to continue writing articles for ASP Free. However, circumstances have not made that possible. Shortly after leaving, my name was removed as the author of the articles that I wrote while working for Developer Shed. It's true that while you work for someone, and works you great belong to them. For this reason, many magazines and periodicals choose to publish all articles written by in-house staff under a single entity. Developer Shed, however, has always credited the actual author. This is one of the things that drew me to them in the first place. Any of you who have written understand what it means to have your name attached to a published work. Imagine what it feels like to have it removed. These articles were not published nameless, they were published with my name on them. And they remain published now with the name changed. Had they been published without my name originally, I would not have cared. But to have my name removed AFTER they were published with it is just wrong on so many levels. I contacted the staff about this and I was told that it is standard procedure to remove staff names even though we separated on good terms. However, apparently, that is not true. http://www.devhardware.com/cp/bio/Gnorb/ As I understand it, that former staff member left on bad terms. And I'm not just being cynical. Here another member sees things the same way. http://www.devhardware.com/forums/s...718&postcount=7 With all things considered, I have chosen to disassociate myself with the Developer Shed network of sites. It saddens me to have to make this decision. Unfortunately, even if the situation were to be rectified, I'm not sure I could have the same respect for the administration. I have spent much time as a member, as a moderator, and as an administrator helping to build and grow these sites. I have become a part of them and have become particularly attached to the people. I have made many friends here. I do not have any hard feelings toward Developer Shed or its staff. But unfortunately, that feeling of welcome seems to have faded. and so I must say goodbye. It has truly been a pleasure. If you wish to stay in touch, my contact info is in my profile for as long as it may last. Which, I fear, may not be much longer at all. Farewell, my friends.

That's a real shame and I think fairly shabby treatment of a
long term contributor. I haven't written any articles for devshed so can't comment on the T's & C's that you sign up to when you do. My take is that even that even if you leave - you still wrote the articles and that while devshed do have the copyright the orignal author should still be credited. You will be missed. |

I'm really sorry to hear that, Rob.
Wish it was minor issue, but it's not - it's major injustice towards you and major offense with no good reason. I must say, if such thing would have happened to me I would most likely have done the same thing as you. Your contribution to those forums is huge - it's really shame that you leave this way and very sad moment. I can only hope that your extreme action will be heard and have impact in the future - any policy can be changed. I wish you the best of luck with your new projects, you will be missed. |

What a SAD moment to hear of such injustice. I am sorry for you even though I dont know as well but I have read some of your articles and such... STRONG work! You deserve the credit. Best of luck in all that you do. I am sure we haven't seen the last of you. I am sure 99% of us feel that way as well!

@Doug: Don't let the proverbial heart attack hit you on the way down the hill! It's low to kick people when they are down.
@Nilpo: Sorry to hear about all this, tis a damn shame and big loss to our community ![]()

It is very sad indeed what's happened to you Nilpo.
It is very strange indeed that they don't give due credit where it is. It is a damn shame to see you leave, we'll miss you my friend. It is not going to be the same here without you. Quote:
I'd like to think you were sleepy or drunk when you wrote this, but for crying out loud. Keep these comments to yourself
