Gun nutters and US high schools.
Another tragic day in US history. This time the gunman was a dad of three who felt it necessary to take other young lifes with him before he ended his own. Sad! We had it in this country at Dunblane some years ago. But it seems the "in-thing" with morbid nutters on the other side of the pond.
Why do they have to try and make themselves infamous in this way. I'm not being small-minded but why the need to end someone elses life (especially those that are still young) when they need to end theirs. WTF is wrong with these people. |

it's time for their 15 minutes of fame ... nothing more than that ... take the shootings at columbine, would you remember the kids that did this, if all they killed were themselves ... NO, but kill a bunch of innocent other kids before doing yourself in and you go down in history.
i hate when the media tries to play off these cretins as being disturbed ... "it's because of his upbringing that caused this to happen" etc. has nothing to do with it, guy wanted fame, guy got fame. all there is to it. they need to stop making excuses for these degenerates.

I hear ya mehere - Suicide used to be a selfish act, nowadays its a driving force behind monstrous acts who either are that disturbed that they want everyone to know their name after their last foul act or are that disturbed they think heaven awaits them where they'll be martyred and fed peeled grapes by naked virgins.
Which one is more sad is hard to tell. Warped twisted minds give suicide a bad name! |

The blood is on the heads of the executives at Fox, and CNN, and NBC, and ABC, and CBS and all the rest who sensationalize these events, giving some additional motivation to someone else inclined to be a future murderer. I'm 2000 miles away from the PA tragedy, and I really don't even need to know that the shooting happened, much less have hours of continuous uninterrupted coverage along with all the gory details.

I hear you Doug. I don't think they should give these people (who do this) any mention, much less the amount they tend to give.

I totally agree, as the more attention one gets over some BS shooting, the more likely someone else will desire that attention and try to 'one up' the previous person. It intrigues individuals to get this type of media attention. It is not healthy though to always see the negatism on the TV and hear it on the web and radio.

I tend to agree with Doug - but sadly enough it's like asking the bird
to stop singing. and sometimes the media can push the authorities to investigate deeper, thus help to prevent such things from happening in the future. |

All the points made have various forms of validity and ring of common sense - but surely when this happens three times within a week - something is seriously wrong somewhere.
Our schools over here in Scotland now look like security centres after Dunblane - the Academies and Primaries. Now it may not look pretty but at least its sorm form of deterrent to avoid things like this happening again. Last edited by pws1970 : October 4th, 2006 at 04:52 AM. |

Most of the schools in this area, you now have to go through Metal Detectors. I recall when I was in HS, we barely had a handful of fights in a given year, never to mention a weapon being used. I was in a good school district though. We had the occassional bomb threat but 99.99% of the time, it was just a prank.
