Happy Birthday Israel

Israel is 57 years old today.
I'm going to celebrate it by having big BBQ and lots of meat!

lol I ate so much it's enough for a week!
the BBQ smelled great indeed, we were about 10 friends. I think that about 90% of the Israeli had BBQ that's the tradition here - and of course that it comes with lots of Humus!
how you celebrate your independence day? it's only within couple of months...

Nothing much!!
Celebrate it by watching our Independence Parade held at New Delhi on T.V.
and then enjoying the Holiday
but yes do feel proud and hoist our National Flag!!!

when's India's Independence Day? How exactly India got independant and when? I know very little about it and would welcome to know some more...

shadow, history goes like this.
India was overtaken by England and they ruled for almost 2 centuries.

All these years people fought for independence from them and eventually on
15th August, 1947; India was freed from English Rule resulting in creation of Pakistan.

So its the independence day but not birthday of India.
Also i want to know if the independence day of Israel was the birth of Israel as well???
Like u can say that Pakistan was born on 14th August, 1947.

so it's really close to Israel date of becoming independant - make sense, as both were results of world war II...
Israel was "born" (i.e. given its original name Israel) over 3,000 years ago when God has declared this piece of land as the property of Bene Israel - his chosen people and all of this is described in the book known as the Old Bible.
But as the years passed, Bene Israel commited sins and God got angry at them, so eventually he sent foreign empires to conquer Israel. for over 2,000 years Israel was populated by non jewish people, and only after the big Holocaust during World War II where the jewish community around the world was nearly extincted (6,000,000 jewish men, women and children were slain by the Germans as part of their Final Solution) Israel was allowed to become the official, secured, house of Jewish people from all around the world.
Our independence was not easy, we had to fight and win six Arab Nations (Egypt, Syria, Transjordan (later Jordan), Lebanon, Iraq and Saudi Arabia) to survive.

but here we are now, in the year 2005 (or 5766) standing firm and proud - and still fighting to survive.

wow, thats a great fight back story....... similar to what we Indians did against the English!!!
I did read abt what Hitler did to Jews in WW 2.
but i always wondered why??

he wanted the world to be "pure" and clean, where only the "Fittest" would live and rule. Fittest by his definition is people with "pure" blood i.e. ‘Aryan race only. all others must be killed or be slaves. he didn't kill only jews - he killed over 12,000,000 people in order to "cleanse" the world of the filth. some races he considered lower, but not filth - those races he intended to make slaves. but jews, gypsies, gays and such
