Discussion - Holiday rant

Do you sometimes get the feeling that if this were a carpentry forum, the questions would be like, "I'm just beginning to learn how to use a hammer, and I need to build this 2-storey house, see, can you tell me how to do it?"

Sorry, maybe this is just a bad day for me.

It's alright, Don. There's a lot of days I feel the same way on here. That's the unfortunate nature of help forums. Too many people come from too many backgrounds and skill levels.

LOL Don!! I must admit though, they would probably word the question:

"I'm just beginning to learn how to use a hammer, and I need to build this 2-storey house, see, can you build it for me?"

"I'm just beginning to learn how to use a hammer, and I need to build this 2-story house, can you build it for me- I'm willing to pay $100 and I need it tomorrow."

I have a hammer and I need this thing. Can you build it for me? It has to have two of those other things and my boss wants it yesterday.

So I'm not the only one who has thought about this, eh?

@Nilpo - LOL!! Thats probably about the most realistic, put in computing terms it would be really vague like:

I have to build a program to create part A if part B is equal to Part C and Part D is equal to z - q. It doesn't work - can you fix it for me please!!

@Don - No you're not the only one who has thought about this. I sometimes think its like pulling teeth, repeatedly asking the OP to post their code or their db structure. 9 times out of 10 if they put all of the information in the first post we could give them the solution straight away!!

Indeed, if they took the trouble to gather all the pertinent information, in many cases they could solve their own problems. Unfortunately, lots of people take the lazy way, if they get an error, they don't even read it, they post to a forum! Oh, well, I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for humanity to change.
