Hourly rate
this might be the wrong section to post in, if so I'm sorry in advance.
I'm about to accept my first access development job, but i have no idea what to charge hourly, I've done asp freelance work before but never in access. can anyone share what they have charged in the past?

will you be developing an entire access application or making additions/changes to one already existing? if it's a whole project application, i generally charge a flat fee and not hourly. if it's maintenance work such as additions/changes to an existing application, then i charge hourly. i have charged anywhere from $35-$75 US an hour depending on what needed to be done. most of the work i have done with Access is new applications though and they tended to range anywhere from $750 - $1500 depending on what's involved.

I agree with Mehere, for the project you need to charge a fixed fee for the specification (make it is clear it is for the specification! otherwise they will add things and expect no extra charge!) Then for additions etc chrage an hourly rate.
The hourly rate needs to depend on your experience, how much you know about Access and how experienced you are because the better you are the faster you will work and therefore warrent more money an hour!! If it is a newbie project really for you then you need to charge a bit less!! hope that helps RF

Experience is the key here - if your less experienced then charge less than the going rate - which I am assuming you are or you would have never posted here in the first place.
Once you are in-command of time / probability factors you will be a better judge of the hourly charge that you want to relay to the clients. I'm afraid there is no better explanation but by judging yourself honestly and truthfully for the work you are about to participate in; -- charge too much and their is less chance of return work -- charge too less and you feel swindled by your own foolishness by the end of the project |
