you can just flow then - let life/fate lead you by sending requests for all kinds of places and accepting whoever accept you, then adapting to the new place and conditions. like it? cool, you can stay. didn't like it? you can always try different place. as you're only starting, I believe you can rest assured you'll have plenty of places to check out, and surely one of them would be what you're looking for... whether you currently know that or not..

sure hope so. I want to deal with people and I think i'd be a better manager (after some experience) than a programmer or job of equal status. I like talking to clients, finding out what needs they have, and strategizing about how to accomplish those goals. Anyone can out a method with an object but not everyone can work on a personal level.

very true. I like working with clients but it canbe really hard sometimes!! The thing that irritates me isn't grumpy clients but those that have made a website in FrontPage and thought it was easy and then when you tell them that the dynamic site that they want will take xhours at ££ per hour and they can believe it because they know about making sites and it doesn't take that long and it can't cost that much and why can't i do it like they did aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh deep breath!!

Yeah, I know that one. I just calmly explain some of the differences and some of the challenges between the different tools available. When they say that websites shouldn't cost over $500 (the dollar version of the simile), I tell them that that's like saying you shouldn't buy a steak for more than $10. You can get a steak for any price but it won't be good if it's cheap. Same with websites. You can buy a cheap website but if you want a GOOD website then it costs more money.

I also have a policy where I come up wiht hte design and do the development for them OR they do the entire design themselves and I'll update the content for them. Since I want nothing to do with terrible website design I will NOT mess with peoples' website templates when they do it themselves. It's usually rubbish and they have to live with their design. If they want an upgrade then I'll do it for them but again, I do the design et. all myself. There are a couple things I've added to keep clients from choosing a design and then wanting 20 rounds of changes. It's turning into an art of not getting myself screwed over

sounds like you are pretty experienced at this!! Do you have an online porfolio?

thanks, i really appreciate it. once I get a client that doesn't have a really small budget I might try and go to extra mile, making something like I did for broadviewmanor.com

I focus on small business so I guess that's what I get
