Rant - I Hate Php!!!
Man, what a stupid programming language! I just got my old boss to hire me to do some web design/ASP programming. He didn't realize that most of his servers are Linux. So I tried picking up some PHP learnin' this weekend. What a pain! Just creating a MySQL database has me tearing my hair out.
He's going to have his admin set up a Windows box for my sites, which is good, because I love ASP, but PHP, you can keep it. Blah!!! OK, I'm done ![]() |

yeah, PHP sucks...
I think Harvard did a study recently that showed that most, upwards of 98%, of all PHP developers are closet homosexuals. I'm just sayin'... ![]() |

I am in total agreement, i tried recently to decode some PHP so i could recreate it in ASP and gave up after the code started moving around the screen while i was staring at it.
Give me ASP any time.

To each his own I guess. I've used both ASP and PHP at various
jobs [in my current job all our back-end systems are PHP] and IMO it wipes the floor with ASP...

I never worked with PHP, but I do glimpse sections of code written in PHP
from time to time, and honestly it doesn't *look* bad - without writing something myself I can't really know. ![]() anyhow, IMO loving or disliking PHP or ASP is more like personal habit: someone who is familiar with VB and love it will go with ASP and usually won't like other languages and vice versa: those disliking VB will rarely like ASP and usually go for PHP. as for the "power" of those languages, as far as I came to learn both can do exactly the same things, being server side scripting languages, however PHP come with many many things "out of the box" which makes working with PHP easier in the sense of writing less code - usually. |

That's my opinion, too. I actually do more PHP than VB and more MySQL than MS SQL or Access, and I happen to like the open source stuff better, but I think Shadow Wizard is exactly right, it just depends on what you're most experienced using. I find that I can code a web page with less lines of PHP code than it would take in ASP/VB, and it seems to me that it's easier to read my code later, but again, that's because I use it more. I think the earlier posters were trying to make a point by using sarcasm. It's like the Mac/PC wars. When you get to know a tool really well, you think it's gotta be better than anything else.
