I have finally moved!
Hey everyone,
I've been staying in hotels in the DC metro area for about a week now and I finally found an apartment. Let me give a warning to anyone that accepts a job in this area. Don't unless you absolutely have to or you are single with no dependents!!!! The cost here is notrocious! You would be luck to find a two-bedroom apartment (that is roughly 900 sq ft) for less that $1400. Houses around this area run for a minimum $350,000 to over $1,000,000. Now $350,000 may not sound bad for a house, but you will only get a small shack on maybe a half acre (if that at all) of land. Let me tell you, this has been horrible for me trying to find a safe decent sized home for my family and I. I'm going to be paying almost $1600/month to live there. Times are going to be hard when it comes to money. On the other hand, if you are a single, dependent-free, professional, you would probably love it here. You can get a studio or 1 bedroom apartment for $800-1100 (still expensive) but the night life around here is awesome! Lots of things to do and many places to go. I also recommend utilizing the DC metro because driving around here would be crazy. Gas is usually cheaper the further east you go, but due to all the turnpikes, where it would usually be $1.80 right now it is about $2.15-2.30. Just a heads up if anyone chooses to take a job around here. There are tons of opportunities available, but this place is quite different from the rest of the world. JMH

As long as you all settle quickly and are happy the cost will still be a problem but it wont be a major concern. All the best J.

Those sound like Southern California prices almost. I live in the "cheap" county here in SoCal, where the median home price is only around $450,000. But it will be going down soon, when all the people who bought in the last year or two get foreclosed on.
