I've seen a lot of idoling here of that guy 1337_d00d...and I was just wondering who idols him? I think that's pretty cool that we have a guy that's totally into standards and all. I hope he becomes successful in the near future.

he's bit harsh sometimes but sometimes it's necessary to make people listen. he sure knows what he's talking about, and he's doing very important job spreading the standard programming around here.

/me agrees, but can't rep++ you again... I'm all for the standards, and would be happy to see more people at least try to code properly, but I do't see the necessity he feels to 'force' people to code to the highest standards, as 90ish% of the people viewing your site wouldn't be viewing it the way you intended them to, due to IE being as much use as cramp. So, until IE sorts it's act out, which, let's face it, it's never gonna, things like XHTML1.1 [and 2.0 when it gets here], CSS3 and DOM3 [some of DOM2 even] are just not worth the effort. Just my tuppence though... |

I just wonder what prevents Micro$$ from applying those standards... is it money? laziness? or just pure and utter evil, as the dude always claim?

It's all about the money. hey have their own standard, and they
just want everyone else to have to abide by it. That's why a lot of .NET driven sites only work in IE, same for many asp/vbscript ones. Why should they adopt someone else's standards when they can just make their own and force everyone else to adopt it...? |

Erm.... The ASP.Net controls that output the (rather horrid code) were developed back in 1999, the guys working on it were reprioritised to other tasks, such as FrontPage. ASP.Net 2.0's controls now accept Firefox and Opera as "Greater than IE6" and no-longer as "downlevel". They're also all 100% XHTML1.1 Compliant. And what does "VBScript" sites have to do with anything? ASP3.0 doesn't emit any (X)HTML on its own, the bad code from those sites is all the designer/developer's fault. |
