Memnoch, no doubt you're the most helpful member of those forums. the amount of pleas for you to stay in this thread is only the tip of the iceberg.
I'm very glad you decided to stick around in spite of everything, you've made the day for many members who are currently here and for many more to come!
I noticed those changes in the forum as well, and made my best in order to adapt. i'm fast adapter, and I think those perks make the forums more interesting place to be in... as they were designed to do.
I dislike those reputation races when they come instead of helping, but usually it means members try to help more and improve their attitude.
conflicts in threads are common, I agree... but sometimes it's better for newbies to see more than one solution, and they can simply choose one solution that looks the best for them. I tend to do that from time to time (giving different solution) and I never ignore the original asker because I argue with someone over the solutions. threads going off topic are different issue, I try to avoid this as much as possible outside the Lounge.
well, enough words... time for action!

hey, im new around here and have only been posting in one thread in which Memnoch has been helping me get to grips with using a asp.net and mysql driver ans understanding them. He has been really helpful despite all my noobie questions!!
People like Memnoch are a credit to any forum and as a noob i am really please Memnoch stayed and really appreciate his help.

I completely understand someone standing up for what they believe in. It shows strength in your convictions and strong character.

People on this forum started getting more of an "I want to get a better belt" or "I want more Rep. I didn't join this board to get rep points or a black belt, and I don't teach Part-Time because the money's great (which it isn't) or because their are hot chicks in my class (which there aren't).
I joined this board and I teach because, I want to help others. Beginners need mentors to assist them as they develop and grow in their careers. If I can help someone be a better programmer, and show them how to effectively gather requirements for an application, or how to properly plan an application using OO concepts, or demonstrate how a database should be designed, then I get much more satisfaction from teaching, passing on knowledge to others, than just by solving a simple problem.
It's the same analogy...sure I could go catch a fish for you to eat for dinner tonight, but if I can teach you how to fish, then you can feed yourself always.
That's how I see it.
Some people on here have been more concerned with getting more posts to get another belt, or begging for Rep. points, or just plain trying to prove other people wrong.
I don't know how many threads I have read where people have posted different solutions in a thread and then started disagreeing with each other and totally forgot that the person who asked the question is the one that needs help, and is getting ignored becuase 2-3 other people want to argue about whose solution is more effective.
Programming is about trial and error, and there are many different ways of reaching the same solution.
Let's not forget the main purpose of forums like this, it's not a race to see who can get the most posts or the highest degree black belt or the most rep. points, it's to help others solve their problems.
