If people had some common sense, we wouldn't have any of these
problems. 'Anything' in respect to a developers forum is not quite
the same as 'anything' in respect to a religous forum, for example.

I agree with what Hirsch said. It is precicely those people who just
roam the lounge without contributing to the community that we are
targetting.

I'm almost afraid to post there, now, since no one has the same interpretation of the "unwritten-rules"....

Frankly, those rules just caused more damage than they solved, as now it's up to anyone to interpret what "reasonable" is....

I am so glad that Sep and Hirsch aren't mods in the Lounge....

There are some very very valid points on both sides. I think Chief has just come up with a very good one in that some people don't contribute at all. To be honest, a little contribution is all it takes. Even if that involves asking valid coding questions. The questions that are asked by experienced users can be more useful than some of the answers that are given as they are usually more pointed and very well worded.

One things is for sure, we all now know that posting at Dev Shed should not go off topic. That's a good starting point going forward.

I've hated sep since day 1, and the only reason he remains there is that everyone's afraid to cross him and and he's a mod, and helps out in the PHP forum....

This entire reformation project would be so much easier without him around.... Hirsch has been somewhat obnoxious as well, but Sep's just ornery to be around, he sucks the joy out of everything....

If I were on the mod panel over there, I'd be demanding some sort of reform or be walking out on them.... I may do that anyway....

Seriously though, from what I've seen, you haven't posted
purely to provoke reactions out of people, or taken threads

Rubbish. People probably have less respect for us mods than the
normal users. Sep is there because has earned [most] people's
respect over the years, and he really really knows his st*ff.

I don't doubt Sep's knowledge in the least, and I don't doubt the fact that he's brilliant. He just acts like an asshole most of the time.

Any reform I initiated would go under the title of "Let's remember Sep and Hirsch are not gods and don't run the forum, other people matter too", because people appear to have forgotten that....

Mods get automatic respect, they can only lose it. I haven't seen any reason other than last weeks Hirsch episode that would give me cause to lesser my opinion of a mod. Even now, I can't really say any mod doesn't deserve respect.

Mods are mods because they know their stuff. Therefore they get respect.

This isn't jsut some vendetta Sep and Hirsch have. What is going
on has been agreed by all of the mods [except xbot, for some
reason ]... [well, maybe not all, but it was open for discussion
in the mod forum, and everyone there agreed, no-one disagreed]
