Real Story

In some places the Monumental Axis is considered "the largest avenue of the world". Yet, when you take a good look at it you realize it is not that large at all. The Monumental Axis could, in fact, be considered as two separate avenues of 6 lanes each.

At least two web sites even say "The world's widest road is the Monumental Axis in Brazil, where 160 cars can drive side by side." This is totally crazy!!!

And selwonk you were very close.

Answer:
President: Gerald Ford
Vice President: Nelson Rockefeller

How: When Spiro Agnew resigned his Vice Presidency after pleading "No Contest" to charges of Tax Evasion. Then president Richard Nixon appointed Gerald Ford as Vice President.

After Richard Nixon resigned the presidency after the Watergate scandal. Gerald Ford was then sworn in as president and appointed Nelson Rockefeller as Vice President.

They finished out the remainder of the Nixon/Agnew term, but lost their reelection bid to Jimmy Carter/Walter Mondale.

So there you have it, during this 2 year period, we had a president and vice president running the country who were never elected.

I actually have a book in my toilet called 'A Book of Interesting Facts'. So here's one:

Some stars you see in the sky at night are so far away that by the time you see them they no longer exist.

Well, I can add to the sports discussion (my specialty ). Off the top of my head:

Quote:
Did you know that the game of basketball actually was invented from a teacher trying to entertain his students? He set up a basket on the wall (no bottom) and had them shoot peaches into it. Every time someone would make a shot, the nerds (physically challenged, if you wish) of the group would be standing on ladders and fetch the peaches out. (I'm not 100% sure if it was peaches they used, but I'm pretty sure.)

Quote:
They used to hang the baskets right up on the balconies in some schools. Since they were in reach of some people, they would interfere with the game. To prevent this, they invented the backboard.

I could go on and on with sports trivia, but I'd never stop

How about this one to all of you sports fans:
Code:
The only two days of the year in which there are no professional sports games
  (MLB, NBA, NHL, or NFL)
are the day before and the day after the Major League Baseball All-Star Game
