Is this possible- app that opens .doc in IE7?

Hey,
This if my final year of High School, for my major work I am required to write a program with my choice of language. I couldn’t really think of anything to do, apart from a forum however my software teacher didn’t agree for some reason. He had the idea of creating an extension for IE7 so it is possible to open a .doc (not docx, as I understand this will be quite easy as it uses XML).
But i have no idea what IE7 is like with extensions/plug-ins. I cannot use firefox plug-in/extension as teacher is an IE7 kind of guy, and that means higher marks.
So do you guys think it is possible? I am able to install a copy of Office on the server, so maybe that would help, to be honest ive bludged alot in software over the past year but i am starting to work really hard, and i am modivated to do well. I will paypal $5 to the person who helps me the most.
I suppose i will code with ASP.NET/VB or something as it IS a IE7, but Im not really sure, sorry for the ultra nooby post guys, i just really need the help. I will be posting this same message over 3 or so forums, and the person who helps the most will get $5-$10 depending on the help!

And if anybody could help code it i would pay them $50 paypal

hello Winterz and welcome to aspfree,

what you need can't be done with ASP and is not related to ASP, ASP.NET
or server.

we don't have forum for IE here so I moved this thread to the general
Programming Help forum for the time being.

I believe you can write application that will serve as extension to IE7
using C++ language or Visual Basic, for IE6 it was called activeX
components, not sure how it's called in the new browser.
