I'm going to tell you all a story of my military experience and then what just happened a few moments ago.
I enlisted in the US Navy under a contract called National Call to Service. This stated that I would go to Navy Basic Training, Information Systems Technician school, and then serve 15 months of active duty. Upon completion of active duty I would then server 24 months of drill reserve (1 weekend a month, 2 weeks of the year, of drill time). I was given the option to re-enlist in active duty instead of performing drill time. So, I decided to re-enlist in active duty. The Navy rejected this request stating they needed more people in the reserve, (probably because they keep sending everyone to Iraq to get killed). Anyway, so I did as I was supposed to. After my active duty, I reported to a Navy reserve station to get everything setup on the reserver side. They couldn't figure out what to do with me as the contract I had signed on to had changed while I was serving. So they called me back stating I had three options: See a recruiter and re-enlist active duty. See a recruiter and enlist in the Navy Reserve. Or, do nothing and just forget about it. Guess which option I chose...After being ****ed around so much I didn't want anything to do with the Navy. Just an hour ago, I got a call from the Navy reserve...months after all this took place. Now they want me to get attached to a reserve center. After everything they screwed up, no one knew what to do with me...now I have to go back and start up the reserve time my initial contract said I was to server. BUT, they changed the contract on me while I was serving...it is no longer the contract I put my signature on. So, as far as I'm concerned...the contract is void. Of course the United Stated government doesn't see it that way. Hell, they send thousands of troops to other countries to get killed for no good reason at all. It's not that I have a problem with serving my country...I don't. I felt really good about what I was doing. But I'm not one to be screwed...and that is what they are trying to do. So I'm going to fight it and win. Tomorrow I will be contacting my congressman and telling my story. I will consult with all of the military and governemnt employees that I work with at my current job. Anyway, if you all don't hear from me for a while, I may be in jail, or fighting a never-ending battle in a country that is not my business to be in (yes, the Navy is now providing ground support on top of sea and air). Sorry for laying this out on all of you, but I've just had enough of this. If they wanted me so bad they should have had their records straight and had well-informed people of my contract. Now they are contacting me almost 7 months later because they screwed up...I'm not buying it and will pull all of my resources to fight it. Cheers JMH

actually, never heard that before...here's wikipedia's definition for anyone interested: "SNAFU is an acronym meaning, "things are in a mess – as usual." The most commonly accepted rendering is Situation Normal: All ****ed Up. In modern usage, this rendering is commonly used, as is a "snafu" referring to an otherwise normal situation that suddenly went awry. The acronym is believed to have originated in the US Army during World War II." Interesting as it perfectly explains this situation. Cheers Doug! ![]() |

Sorry to hear that JMH
![]() Darn sons of 'goat' those recruiters are always screwing ppl up. When I was 18 (long time ago ....) there was a Navy recruiter that would bother me every day to sign up ... he bothered me so much that my uncle threatened to kick his *** if he showed up again at my house. Ever since then, he stopped bothering me. A friend of the family told me that those recruiters are on a commission basis; therefore, the more ppl they sign up, the bigger the check. I guess these idiots that screwed you over were in the same boat, seeing how no one wanted to sign up. I hope you get it sorted out. Cheers

JMH, our country is quarky, eh? Fighting the battles that you believe in life is what makes character. I guess you have to pick and choose. That is what life is in many ways, one big choice. In the end, we only hope to look back and the chooses we made and be proud of them or atleast say we learned from them. I agree with what you are doing. However, I feel the government will be able to get away with anything they wish. There is always a corrupt politician though... Best of luck!
