Job Advice
Hi ppl, I need your advice
![]() I am currently working as a ASP programmer, I like the ppl I work with and the job is nice, but I dont get a lot of job satisfaction here, but apart from that I am very comfortable here ![]() Another company in our building offered me a job as a PHP developer, I know the programmer, and he seems like a nice guy to work with. I dont know if I should take the job, even though the salary is substantially more, I dont know a lot about PHP, and I am very comfortable at the place I am working now, but on the other hand, learning PHP is never a bad idea, and it will expand my knowledge. I am only 23 ATM, and would like to make the best decision for my future. Any ideas, comments? Cheers Jako

I think ASP is going become more and more a niche technology
and that if you can get a pay rise to learn PHP, well... I'm 38 and if it was me, I'd take it. |

If you are talking ASP.NET then yeah, theres probably a future in it, ASP isn't going to go away, there are waaaay to many sites built in it for that, but less and less new sites will be built in it as the coding methods it allows become more and more obsolete. |

I don't think ASP is going to go away, but less and less new sites are going to be built with it. Newer technologies will take over. This means that there will be less and less work. That's why I'm starting to look at ASP.NET, which I'm not sure I like as much. |

hey NF, just take the job...Don't think about salary, because you are also mentioning satisfactory..First get some satisfaction out of ya job and then worry about salary. Just show this guy you are good in your job and your salary will automatically rise..

I say go for it!
I'm 25, and on my 3 job - second go around on one company. You already know ASP, so even if you leave to do PHP it isn't like you are forgetting all that knowledge of ASP. If you do take the job, make sure you leave on good terms, give two weeks, offer to help out after that if needed on a contract basis. That way you can always come back. Good luck!

NF, hello! nice to see you around again..
I don't have a great experience but I'll tell you my opinion.. If at the job you are now there is a prospect to place you in a better potition in the future and increase your salary(which is the most important!that's why you are working for!) I'd tell you to stay otherwise go for the new one! ![]() |
