after all, good computer is kind of investment.

I don't think that with that money you can't get a good laptop.
I wouldn't give more money since I still regret for having give $1800 for a desktop, pentium 4, 1,9GHz, 512 RAM 5 years ago and now I can find the same with much much much less money so..
NO, computer is not an investment or, at least, is not a good one!

Edit: oh yes, it's an expensive gift and actually is not a gift for me but it will be at the house I live so, something tells me that I will use it more than the person to whom predestined to. If you know what I mean..

Well loss of value is the name of the game with new technology. You're definitely not going to get an apple for under $1500.00. I'd probably go with the Dell as well.

My dear friend DR...

I own a Dell Inspiron 9300. I am very satisfied with the performance of the lap top. It has a Centrino M and I have not had any problems whatsoever. It loads fast, and works great. The only issue I have is Dell Corporation. Yes, they managed to make a good lap top...but they screw their customers pretty well. If you do go the Dell route, definately do NOT put it on a Dell Preferred Account credit card. Finance charges and interest will rape you!

Another option would be to become a student of a university which provides laptop regulation/options so you can get subsidised for maybe 1000$ and also being from the street doing an education...just a thought..

i take classes from a university so I get everything at discount. I got VS.net for like 99 bucks. Plus i get like 50% off laptops. it's sweet.

I have a Dell Latitude D400 and never had problems. Plus it doesn't feel all flimsy like some and it's really really light.

Hey JMH! I was looking for you! Where have you been?
I have heard that about dell before..
About Centino M I know(correct me if I'm wrong) that it doesn't perform well with the MS products..
it looks independent to me but I don't know.. That's why I'm asking..
Also, I have heard that Pentium M is the best but raise the prise of the laptop very high..
If someone know I would like to inform about these technologies..

Yeah, that's a good solution

(wizi, have you noticed that I already feel it as a gift for ME! )

Hey DR....I'm around every now and then. I just moved to Virginia, as that is where the Navy wants me to go. So I don't have my own internet yet. Plus been looking for a home. As far as the Centrino M, I haven't had any problems with it myself. The price of this lap top was very high, as well, though.
