the cheapest and good solution would be something like Dell Latitude D600
the best solution would be a IBM Thinkpad there are a lot of internet sites which show user experience and stuff, for instance cnet.com |

I have owned 3 laptops, 2 Sony Vaio's and 1 Dell. While all three have been good with no problems and I like the Sony Vaio's the best.

I also considered buying new laptop, but after second thought I realized I don't really
need laptop so I bought ordinary desktop computer, which cost about 1/3 for the same hardware. dunno about different kinds of laptops, but you better consider those points before buying: 1. do you really need portable computer? if not, buy desktop computer as its way cheaper. 2. what are you going to do with the computer, i.e. what kinds of programs will you install? according to this, decide how much HDD and RAM you need and of course what screen card - good card can cost very much, but is essential if you plan to have games. 3. weight - usually lighter computers cost more... question is how much you care for the weight. will you be on the move frequently with the laptop? if so, buy lighter one... |

I did buy a few Dell computers/laptops for my friends for some nice discounts. www.fatwallet.com (go to the hot deals forum) and search for dell coupons. I was able to get 40% off a laptop, and one in awhile you can find a $750 off a $1500 purchase. Now these are awesome deals, and you can customize your order to get exactly what you want.
Beware, it takes time to get the best possible deal doing it this way since dell has a different cost for each upgrade depending on the package you select. Either way, good luck! |

i was also considering buying a laptop for giving demonstrations of my software packages for the client, but now i got a piece from my boss so problem solved. For your information i have a Dell as i mentioned above and its really a good one although the weight is a negative point. I'm travelling a lot so its becomes a burden...

Can you specify what exactly you are planning to do with the laptop? What are the uses? Are you going to travel with it?
