I suppose a general rule of thumb is you can't take any content off websites for your own use without the owner's permission. There is the principle of "fair use" that you might check on.

Anyone posting copyrighted material on the public internet without any form of protection really is an idiot.
9 out of 10 people will gladly use material gleaned off websites and usenet etc... without copyright permission for use in their coursework reports and stuff... Its more acceptable if you post the source of the copyrighted material and credit in your report along with the URI back to the website/page/image, etc... But what is universally unacceptable is "site-ripping" or "content-ripping", which is when you take someone's work, post it on your own site, and call it yours. |
