nothing special here... live broadcast over TV of course, but apart of that quite calm.

it's important indeed, but when you see the whole picture you'll see that it needs more than just giving money in order to "fix" their lives... let's just say that giving money is like giving full code to newbie. he would be very happy and grateful for some time, but since he learned nothing from this, he would need help again. it's endless cycle...

the whole live 8 thing is not about giving money. it is about raising awareness about the situation and decisions that the G8 leaders will face this week. Mainly

1)cancelling debt
2)increasing aid (not just money)
3)fairer trade rules.

these things combined have the potential to make a huge difference to the people in poorer countries!!

cancel debt = giving money... simple logic.
however giving aid like medical aid and education is different story indeed... but how is it related to the show? our media says the show had one purpose: convince the G8 to give up debt. huge debt, indeed (25 billion dollars) but what will they do when such debt will grow again? the main goal should be building infrasturcture and education system, building economical system that will be self-sustaining.

there has got to be a starting point and making poverty history is just one! I agreee there is loads that needs to be done and loads that we can/should/needto do but hopefully by removing the debt then they can use the limited funds and aid they have to start building up their countries.

Hopefully the fairer trade laws will prevent or certainly limit the debt from growing again but i don't know the ins and outs of that one.

as for the

that is true, but you could look at it

cancel debt = not taking money !!

not trying to argue, just pointing out from a different perspective !!
