Question General Question - MS Office 2007 [Excel] Quirk...

I'm being lazy and not searching Microsoft's labrynthian website.... Since we don't have a place for this, I thought I would pose a question to any of you that are using the new MS Office 2007 products.

When I open an Excel document created in "Compatibility Mode", I have to do some action like minimize or maximize to get the spreadsheet to open. If I do nothing, the spreadsheet never opens and I am left with a blank screen. Has anyone else seen this? If so is there a fix for it?

I have office 2007 and never seen this.

Did you do a full install? also, if you did a full install, did you do a customized install or typical?

I just did a typical install with all the components. Have you tried that?

I use Office 07 and haven't run across that problem. Try to do a repair on the office package.

I did the repair - but that did not fix the problem. As for the install options, I did not perform this myself (as our IT staff must handle all installs). We have a site license for all Microsoft software, so I believe the install was through MSDN or somesuch.

Well here's an update. After living with this for awhile, I was able to determine that the behavior only happens when Excel is not already open. Any file that I click on that has an Excel format will just hang until I press some button (like minimize or maximize) if Excel is not already open. It's like it is waitng for some activation before opening the file. Could it be a security issue behind the scenes?

nope, been using it since beta and haven't come across anything like that.

I did find on a clients machine that i upgraded to office07 that their xls files on the desktop, when they double clicked and opened them from there it didn't open, they had to go through Excel>OrbThing>Open and then hit save and all is good again...pain for those with many files tho!!....dunno if that applies here tho..
