Perl and Flatfile vs PHP and Mysql...
hey all,

a client currently has perl and flatfile for their ecommerce shop. They want to make some mods to it and i have told them the best step for the future would be to use php&mysql as perl and flatfile is really becoming old hat and not worth investing time and money in...

any comments or thoughts...

Back to the main question - there isn't even a choice, it should always
be done with a DB, especially something like an ecommerce shop.

Leaving it in flat files can lead to all sorts of troubles that a database'll
handle for you - concurrent access, transactions, etc. Not to mention
how much easier it is to build/maintain/update than flat files...

thanks chief, that is what i think but i needed to just make sure i was giving the correct advice.

Trust your gut and your own experience in programming RF to come to your descisions, frankly you already knew before you posted the poll, next time bin ANY undescisive thoughts and speak your mind to the client, if anything at least they'll be impressed by your straightforwardness.
