sorry to double post.. but i hear a common critisim from many people who hear me using php this way. they liken me to "having a hammer and seeing everything as a nail" .. I see their point actually.. but its just so easy given i like php so much. Just wondering if you ever encountered the same.

Don'tcha just love those nagging errors
![]() In reply to your previous post, I don't hear much since I work from my home office as a one-person business. No one else is around to complain about any tech choices I make ![]()

I think I may have converted to the dark side, I have just downloaded and installed PHPDev423 for the simple fact that I was originally going to create my site in .Net, but then bought a new box and I know what I was getting into before I bought it but it just has XP Home installed, now I have the disk to upgrade to Pro, nudge nudge, wink wink, but I want to keep it clean and its coming in at £160 for the Pro Software version, which at the mo I cannot afford, so do you think I have chosen wisely as the site will be a kinda working portfolio of the skills I know and will be quoted in my C.V.
My gut feeling was to do it in .Net, however, under the current financial situation this is not viable for the very near future, the family holiday is all-consuming at the mo + other personal projects that are costly to say the least. Sorry, to intervene on a discussion. |

I would seriously recommend you not use an installer package
like PHPDev, they may seem easier, but they can lead to more annoying issues later on... My advice would be to have a read of this very straighforward article, and install/set everything up manually. http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/Apac...-under-Windows/

Great runthrough post Chief, so if I remember my Uni days I remember installing and setting-up the Apache httpd config file this option just deemed aesier to have it all installed in the oner. If i remembered rightly, I had a little developer server running on my machine called Xitami which got extremely screwed up by myself from installing Apache, probaby me screwing up the ports, and running Php in its early days. <edit> I will unistall the php bundle from my machine and get to work installing each process seperately. Thanx Chief .Last edited by pws1970 : March 18th, 2006 at 10:41 AM. |
