Still have a fair while to go on my Norton subscription - and since I paid for it.... I'm damn well gonna use it
![]() But I might give AVG another bash, I did like it |

Norton is way to invasive for my liking.. it spawns entries and software all over my registry and hardisk. Can be a pain to remove
.. but they do update quite often and the Norton Internet Security firewall is quite decent. But the AV scanner does not do a good job against Hijackers/spyware/adware. Thats my main bone with them.. althoguh the latest prducts have tried to rectify this gap...Yes there have been many complaints about Norton hogging resources, but Norton remains one of the better suites for server systems though primarily due to lack of big competition in the server field... |

It has been my PC experience to just get Norton AntiVirus and not Internet Security because, well, it's too secure. It can keep you offline way too easily. I had to do some testing a few weeks ago with detection of viruses in emails and in files and I found that Norton Antivirus caught just around 80% of them. I was comparing it to an open source app called ClamXav (which isn't for your PC people) and that caught 100% of the viruses. I lost faith in Norton after that and have recommended AVG ever since and it seems to be doing ok. |

ummm.. i find the idea of too secure quite amusing.. i wish that were the case. ![]() But any AV or firewall is only as good as its updates and even then only as good as the number of threats the developers are aware off. To be honest i wish i could have a system where i was too secure. ![]() I will always reccomend the combination of AVG Antivirus and ZoneAlarm firewall which i think are both amazing freely available products superior to most paid suites cept maybe NOD32. But neither AVG or Zonealarm perform well on PC based server systems... In such a case only would i say Norton is a decent bet. It is not good policy to operate without a firewall. An antivirus software is seriously lame without a firewall component. There are numerous worm exploits that can easly disable your AV suite, and there is the case of polymorphic virii which can easily baffle even the best AV suites. Not to mention, Antivirus suites are quite useless against a live hacker. It would only be prudent to use both a firewall and AV suite. In addition to this i reccomend monthly scans with a spyware detector and an adware detector. I have not heard about ClamXav because i belong to one of 'em PC guys .. but would love to look into it futher.. Thanks for the tip off on ClamXav ![]() |

ClamAV is available for PC, its called ClamWin. I am using it on my own server. The only downside is a lack of real time scan. So I schedule a weekly scan as my server isn't used that much

Oh great!! It's always good to have open source alternatives. No real-time scanning? That's no good. On the Mac version I think you can tell it to monitor certain folders. Not the same on PC? |
