Program - HijackThis
I have finally got my Laptop loaded and configured with all the software I need and the other night it decided to act up ... it took like 15 minutes to load on startup which is way outrageous. It appeared to be a bit better this morning ... but figure might as well check everything I can.
I ran my anti-virus (nothing) and adaware (normal crap) and took care of those issues. I went to Devshed and found a link for HijackThis (from a post by TommyBoy) and downloaded it ... it, however, contained a virus ... I then downloaded it from two other links and both contained the virus ... My question, does anyone have a good copy of HijackThis they can send to me? ... I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Yes mcafee has this rather stupid habit of labeling hijackthis which is a very safe and valueable tool for most security experts, as a virus threat. I quote lines form the creator of Hijackthis, Merijn who is one of the most respected security proffesionals in the world at the moment below: Quote:

get rid of mcafee, get AVG
 its free and it works. A long long story which i won't tell but basically mcafee let a computer get very poorly and ran slowly. took itoff and replaced with AVG 7 and wahooo fast puter and then avg found a few viruses and sorted them.imo avg is the biz!! and HJT is an excellent and useful program too!! cheers RF

Yeah, McAfee came on my computer too and apparently was the program that was causing my original problem making me want to run HiJack this in the first place. Needless to say, last night I removed McAfee and downloaded AVG even before reading all these messages ...

Good to see you got sorted Mehere.. remember to check your log over at the Devshed AV forum.. someone will reply to it in a couple of days...
 @Radioactive Frog: actually if you dont want to use AVG i would normally reccomend NOD32 or even PC-Cillin as i have found both to be more effective than Norton...but in the edn its user pref.
