Hey guys,

I'm trying to come up with a decent guesstimate for a project.

Conservatively, how much do you think it would cost to develop a site similar in complexity to http://www.xpel.com ?

it looks like it woul dbe a fairly expensive project for your cleint but if that is what they want!

Price can often come down to experience as well. If you are a noobie developer then you would charge less, 1) cus you may not fully be up to the task and 2) as a noob it would be a good site to get under your belt and in your profile!! If you were experienced then base it on your skill level and how much you need the work

When i price projects up i work through what components the site would have and then how long it would take me to create each module. Then from that i work out an hourly rate and times the tqo together and come up with a base figure to base my quote on!

Just my £0.02 worth!

I feel I should clarify my previous estimate a bit. It's based on nothing more than the number of letters in the domain name multiplied by the century we are currently in:
len(xpel) X 2000 = 8000
Does that seem a bit flaky? It's meant to. Based on looking at a site it is difficult to provide any real estimate of cost for developing something similar. The site in question runs off a cms, and has a dealers login, which leads to who knows what. The CMS could be a very simple 'form to page' system, or much more involved. The point is, a quote by looking at a site is nowhere near what the final price/cost would be. A brief is required, outlining/detailing the specific requirements of the project, the aims of the site, it's look, feel and interactiveness, etc.

Certainly has been hectic micky. Starting up a new business venture and picking up a lot of contract work. Demanding but rewarding. Nice to be back here for a little though - feels like home
