This isn't the most reliable option but has lower seektimes, and higher r/w rates. Because the number of rpms are so high it is more likely to break than the other one though Quote:
To sum up, are you planning to store critical data on it(Raid1 or 800ADFD)? Or do you just want high performance(740ADFD)? The choice is not up to me to take If you happen to buy both and want give the other one away... my mailbox is open Hope this helps, Tim |

I've had Western Digital HDs and they've never done me wrong.
This seems to be for a home/office pc, so why not. I'd buy the SATA2 as it has NCQ (linky )

I agree, I've bought a few Western Digitals and they've treated me very well. Nice find about native command queueing ![]()

Thank you!
Yes, WD are great. My current HD is WD. And it's the only company that produces raptors, so I don't have many choices! As for the SATA2, I only found that model above at the online shop I usually buy my stuff. But I searched for that model and it doesn't exist(not even at te WD's page!). So, should I go for SATA1? Do you know if there are raptors with SATA2 technology? @JMH: I only care about speed. I was thinking of buying 2 Seagate Barracuda (that are awesome HDs) and run them under RAID0 but I searched and I found that it's faster to have one raptor at 10000rpm than 2 HDs at 7200rpm at RAID0.
