Remote Access Software
Anyone know of a good, cheap remote access service? Excluding remote desktop, obviously.
As I work from home, I want to be able to access the office computers when a user needs assistance, by taking control of the machine. I want it to be simple, ie they either go to a webpage or I email them a client program that they install, rather than having to talk them through setting up remote desktop, changing the firewall settings etc. etc. I know of a few ranging from £100 pm upwards, but wondered if anyone knew of any other, cheaper options?

I've always liked VNC, but it can be pricey depending on how many licenses you need. They do have a free edition and a cheaper Personal edition you may want to check out.

It's only about 10 computers at the moment, so wouldn't be too bad and I like the fact you're buying the software rather than paying a monthly fee.
I can see how it could get expensive if you need to add more and more computers though. Ideally, I'd prefer it the other way round, where the software side is installed on my machine and the end user just has to either install a small host when required or go to a webpage. Seems the ones that use this method are more expensive and/or a charge a monthly fee. |

I see what you mean. The last time I used VNC (was a few years ago), the remote location had to have the software installed and the connecting location had to install the admin tool that comes with it to take over the other machines. |

Yeah, VNC works well enough (though it can be infuriatingly slow). And it's the only low-key app I'm aware of.
Pretty much anything is going to require a client-side app. |

Yeah, but I'd rather the host side (ie the one I want to connect to) was install on demand rather than the client side (where I am). |

LMAO J..... ![]() Bit like you wanting all the girls in the babe thread?! ![]() Just back to topic for a second. I know you can get systems like I want (webex and gotoassist to name a couple), but just don't really want to fork out £100+ per month for it...Ahh well, it's a nice have rather than a need at the moment... |
