Search tool

Hey,

I was just wondering if any of you knew of a free searching tool I can download and use to go through files and look for a specific string?

I am working with a content management system and it generated a doctype and a bunch of html that causes errors. I would like to remove these but to do this I have to know where a specific function is called.

Point is there are a lot of folders to go through and I figured using a search tool that doesn't require me to open every file individually would be useful.

Thanks!

Post a thread, asks questions later...

I think that's my philosophy...

Turns out you can use window's default search tool to look for a specific "sentense" in a document. So I'm using it, however if you guys know a better tool let me know nonetheless =P

Dreamweaver can do it if that's what you use, as can, I would
imagine, most other good editors...

Yeah but you have to open the files to execute this search,

Opening hundreds of documents slows down the machine considerably. (Wow, this smily fit in just perfect in this thread! )

Edit: I'm such a dope, you can search in a folder, thanks a bunch!

You don't need to open them, you just put the info in the search/
replace dialogue and it does the rest for you...
