The Future of Our World
Trying to develop some serious discussion here about something
that I believe is interesting most of us: the future of our world. The question: what you think will happen in the future? how the world would look like, what will change and in what manner? Describe your prediction for the future mainly in your place, and if you like future of the whole world. My Prediction From what I see in the present in Israel, we are going towards religious/fanatic government. The liberal parties are helpless and year after year they fail to provide stability, security and social conditions. Thus the radical parties gain power - latest poll show that one of our most radical parties get more votes than ever - and we're going toward anti-arab government, one that won't hesitate to use power and I fear too much power. Dry fact is that our extreme religious (Haredim) populace is expanding very fast: each family has 6-20 children. right now they have 11 out of 120 seats in our parliament: within 10-20 years it would triple itself and they will control Israel. As for the world, I believe China will take USA place as the strongest nation in the world and will start messing with the world affairs much like USA is doing now, but with more force. Can't say who China will side with, but hopefully they will be smart enough to avoid world war with USA or Europe. Terrorism won't vanish and when Iran will have big enough stock of nukes (5-10 years) they will start blackmailing the world. |

The only thing I know for sure is I and everyone else on this planet with me, will eventually die. Personally, I'm not concerned with what the world will be like in a 100 years, because I won't be here and neither will my children. I'm concerned with what is going on right now and how it will affect the next 10-20 years. |

Yep - question is whether humanity will survive in the long range. Quote:

It's really hard to say what the future will look like. We can only all hope for the best but assume the worst, based on current events. I think some of what Shadow is saying is true. I personally believe that there is too much resistance in the middle east to impose the beliefs of the west. I just don't believe it's possible. Maybe the youth can see change but the old and conservative never will. I also understand your position Memnoch, that you're concerned about what is happening now. After all, whatever happens between now and a few decades will shape the future of the world. Will humanity be able to survive in the long range? That answer depends on so many factors. But I guess the most important factor is whether we can allow ourselves to coexist as a human race rather than destroy ourselves over silly beliefs. And I do stress the word silly because if there is one fundamental belief that all humans should have, is that all humans should have the right to live. Unfortunately, as long as there are people who don't believe this, we'll continue to live in the world we live in today.

Well I'm younger which may be why I'm probaly more interested in looking further into the future than you guys, so I may be going further into the future with my post that you guys. You've gone mainly on the political veiw of the future. It's really a pretty scary thought looking into the future giving the current state of political unrest. We could all assume the worst, say we only have 10 years left before Iran nukes the US and Europe. You'd hope it wouldn't come to that but all it takes is 1 radical extremist to gain power and control over the nukes. In 50 years time Iran or China may be the dominant force in world politics but one thing I'm relatively certain on though is that we won't be enslaved by aliens. If the Earth hasn't been colonised by aliens in the last few millions years, I can't see it happening in the next 50. At least on the plus side global warming issues seem to be less drastic now with the whole in the o-zone layer apparently getting smaller. Although other world issues don't seem to be going away such as deforestation of the rainforests. 50 years is a long time though, a lot changes in that time and change often happens so slowly your blissfully unaware of it happening. On a non-political note the future always brings big changes to technology. Even 20 years ago I bet the jobs half of the people on this forum do day in day out didn't exist. 10 years ago the internet meant nothing to me, probaly much less than that. I'm young, and hopefully I'll get to live to see another 50 years. Looking back 50 years ago the world was a very different place. No-one was concerned about nuclear war, television was black&white, England hadn't even won the world cup! In 50 years time we could be controlled by China but I think a lot of what moulds the future politically and the way we live our lives is how things develop with science and technology. And that's kind of stepping into the unknown. We don't know if they're close to developing teleporters or hover cars or if we could cure all diseases and all live long and healthy lives. We really don't know what our lives will be like that far into the future, but for me that's what makes it interesting and hopefully we can make it 50 years into the future with our freedom intact. I am 24![]() I agree with all of you on this topic, we can't say what will happen, all we can do is sit back and enjoy the ride, and hope for the best. I think we must concentrate on what we have today, and not too much on the future, because we can't let the present pass us by ![]()

on the other hand, we have to be careful and think about what we're doing in the present so that our children will have world to live in. if today we keep ruining the world (pollution, rain forests) not much will be left for the future generation. |
