I can't see the difference between that site using Apache/PHP and Aspfree doing the same.

I can and its a difference that's been raised many a time in here - it is noticeable and those that feel it neccessary to point it out have done so. Its called conflict of interest.

To use an analogy if I were to harper on about about green issues and saving our environemnt to a group of people at a party I would have an audience that believed I stood for those things - while in the background those that knew myself and noticed my conversation would know I drove around in a 4-wheel-drive gas guzzler and flicked fag-ends from its window. Hardly eco-warrior of the month award. But still, its done and perceptions are installed.

I was under the assumption that forum was created or owned by Microsoft
in the beginning, but after thinking about it I believe I was wrong and like
this forum, it's owned by private person or company.

well, it's not like they're flaming Microsoft in there or worship Linux

How is it a conflict of interest for a webmaster to run discussion forums on Linux/PHP?
Surely it's in the best interest of the independent owner of a website to use the best hardware and software for the job.

If that means Linux, Apache, PHP, mySQL and Invisionboard then I wouldn't be too upset with that setup.

Invisonboard is probably only second to vBulletin for forum software.


So should Aspfree be run on a Windows Server?
How about it's sister site Devshed? Should that be Windows, Linux, BSD...?
What database? mySQL, MSSQL, Oracle?
And should the forums be PHP, ASP, .NET, JSP, CFM...?

aspfree was never meant for advertising ASP or encourage
people to use ASP instead of PHP, it's here in order to help
those who already chosen ASP as their way.

Neither is that forum. Looks like a general tech support forum to me, just like the many others there are on the web, only jumping on the vista bandwagon to get users.
