This is pretty weird... Windows Media Player is boosting my PC?
Hi Guys,
I've been testing a server application for the best part of today, which pretty much involves me using a home-made server flooder that monitors the speed of data transfer to the server.
Before I get started, I would just like to say that my program has nothing to do with Windows Media Player – I’m writing an FTP server. Now, here's the strange part...
When I flood the server without Windows Media Player running, the data transfer gets to around 3MB/Sec (this is all done locally btw).
However, when I flood the server whilst Windows Media Player is running (it doesn’t matter if the music is playing or not), then the server hits ~ 21MB/Sec !!!
I’m not joking; this is very real. I have no idea what’s happening - my only guess is that Windows Media Player has some sort of process-priority system in place that is favoring my server application. Maybe I should write that on the box when I release it: ‘Runs better with music’ - lol
Pretty weird hey?
