Wamp
Anyone here ever try WAMP? If so, do you have a recommendation?

I have Apache/PHP/MySQL all installed on my WinXP Laptop, and
it all works fine. I use it for dev/testing. All the sites that I make are hosted on 1&1 Linux servers; and I very rarely have problems when I tansfer files from one to the other. I wouldn't recommend using an installer such as XAMPP, as they give you less contorl over the install, and are often a pain in the arse when you have problems and can't find out where the are. There is an excellent article on ASP Free's sister site 'Dev Articles' on how to install Apache/PHP/MySQL on Windows. It is the very guide I used when I installed everything for the first time, I found it very easy to follow, and have not had a single problem with my setup ever since. ![]() Here's the link: http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/Apac...-under-Windows/ --Jon.

$15 for that?! :O All it does [from what I can see] is add VirtualHosts to the Apache config file or an .htaccess! Ever heard of Notepad?! ![]() You can get similar apps for Windows -> Apache GUI. As far as I know, the trial is a full working Demo. Still, I reckon you're better off getting your hands dirty setting everything up manually. ![]() |

@Chief - You make a good point...I'm just not familiar with how to do this. Pretty much everything I've ever done on Windows runs in IIS. I've always used Linux servers for Apache...most of which have pretty good GUIs built in to manage virtual hosting. Using these tools locally is new to me. Thanks for the links!

I don't have any problems with WIMP (windows, IIS, mysql, php) on XP. I try out open-source php apps by loading them as an eclipse project, with the eclipse workspace set up as an IIS virtual directory. This lets phpeclipse work just the same as on a linux server.
I use a very large MS hosting service, they provide php/mysql as part of their shared hosting, all running on W2003 servers with IIS6.

@Doug - That sounds like a nice setup. Who is your host?...if you don't mind me asking.
