What Database do you fancy?
I thought about doing a "What is your weapon of choice when programming?" like we have going right now on Devshed, but I thought this might cross over a bit easier.
For me: While I've recently been doing alot of MySQL at work / at play and in the past, I was MSSQL bound, my current favorite (just getting dirty learning to admin it right now) is postgreSQL. I've been told Postgres has the ability to compete with Oracle in scalability and therefore, must take a peek at what's going on in enterprise OS solutions. What's your fancy? |

I use mysql with my home applications as well as small clients but major cleints that I work for usually are using oracle. Can't say that I'm a real big fan of it though. They definitly have some cleaning up to do when it comes to the setup and UI.

I work with both Oracle and SQL Server... don't really "fancy" any of them but both are powerful and give me anything I need so I've voted for both.
Access is nice for small or local applications but when it comes to web application, it's chaos indeed. it's like you try to fly with ground car. maybe it would work, for a short while, but sooner or later you're going to crash. ![]() |

I see you been getting wet in the sea nofriends, its made your belt very wet, but WTG, well deserved.
Hmmmm i goto say, i fancy woman, i prefer mysql datbases though, mainly cos its free and the admin panels you can get with them, makes them very easy to setup and use, and offers enough scale to do what i need.

Is this a prevalent opinion within the ASP community. Forgive me for extrapolating so, but I pictured the ASP community attached to their MSSQL / Oracle / Access with no regard given to OS dbs. I am apparently way off base. I just figured, once you are willing to code proprietarily, you might as well store data in the same channel. |
