What does maintenance mean?

Hello,

What does maintenance mean after a web project is completed?
I am trying to set a proposal that sustain six (6) months maintenance. Does it mean checking the server uptime and maintaining SEO rating only?

Adding/modifying scripts/pages does not include within this proposal though.

cheers,
asptips

IMO it means keeping the server up and running and fixing any bug your client will find.

From my experience with systems maintenance

It usually means rebuilding the whole thing from scratch

But on a serious note I'd agree with Shadows response.

When dealing with web based apps, there are several types of "maintenance"

1) Server Maintenance - deals with ensuring the server is up and running to allow users to access the application.

2) Application Maintenance - deals with updates to the application, such as fixing bugs and other issues that might arise with the application including patches to the server that might adversely affect the applications performance or availability.

3) Data Maintence - deals with making updates/changes to data used by the application. Usually only necessary when dealing with high data apps.
