What is your job??
So what do you do for a living?
What would you like to do if you could do anything? I'm a .NET Developer for a company that creates software for financial institutions. I am responsible for creating the companies internal applications. If I could do anything, I would play pool (9-Ball) for a living or maybe be an MMA fighter. |

Current State: programming in Delphi, C++ and .NET recently for small scale company. Delphi and C++ for industry (code that control heavy machinery) and .NET for web development and large scale management application.
Ideal State: write games. play games. testing new games for living would be cool, for example. ![]() |

Do I really need to say anything here? I think everyone knows everything about me apart from my shoe size!!
OK, historically I am a support person for Windows and a like but now I am an application support person for a software company that develops financial software for the big big banks (Strangley enough Memnoch!!!). I would love to be a Web Designer and maybe moving onto software programming. I would actually love to be a professional footballer. I'm not sure which one of my wishes are the most unrealistic! Phil. ![]()

Well, let me explain.
I was never any good at school and but I loved work, I always said I wanted to run bars and be a landlord of a pub, I worked my way up the ladder to run public houses for bass, Allied domeq and JD wetherspoons. I loved the work until I got a family the pub trade wanted more and more and I wanted to do just slightly less, the odd christmas day, new years day, boxing day off with my young family would have been nice but thats not possible say the people that employeed me. My family is more important and you only live once. Cos i have very few formall qualification I found it hard finding ajob that payed enough for me to live on, I look at retraining and like CDT at school figured computers where the way forward, my brother does networking for a company sounded boaring so i did courses in web design, then founded out that the minimum wage was only £12000 to begin with, and i was better off unemployed. My dad offered to lend me some money to start my own business, in catering but i tried and the compition was to great, I am now building a web site to be a sports retailer, yep i know there is also a lot of compition but its something i can get more passionate about and enjoy and thats the main thing, plus it will be around of many years to come..... I hope. What would i like to do? well there is so much i could list, i would like to be bob geldof, or do the work that he does, or I would like to help people worse off than myself, or a teacher, or i would like to be someone that builds and researches into new techologies and .............. At present I am happy with what i have I see my family all the time, but my future is still bright but its not orange lol Keep smiling

I currently work as an Applications Developer, at least that's what my owner calls it ... er I mean employer. I work for a company that hires us out to companies to do Web/Application Development and pays us slave labor wages. But I guess I can't complain, they did train me too.
What I would like to do is develop my own clientele and work from home.

I'm working as a consultant, basically leeching on to three consultants with a bit more experience in the field, and a lot more contacts than myself (i'm a year removed from university so I haven't been working full time that long).
It's great working a variety of different places, and once I have a reputation where I am i'll be in great demand. I am actually starting at a new site tomorrow for in an 'emergency code warrior' fashion. It's two weeks til their deadline on a project and they're falling desperately behind, so here I come to save the day. At least this time i've used the langage I have to code in (last time I did something like this the language of choice was python, and I had never used python, boy was that a fun week and a half.) -MBirchmeier |

I'm a web application developer, mainly working in classic ASP with some PHP thrown in just for kicks. I would like to move into more of a .NET environment as I think this is the way things are going.
I guess I'm gonna have to find the time to train myself up in it and then look around. *Sigh* Why are there only 24 hours in a day? |

It seems i'm surrounded by all well trained and well educated individuals here. Nice to hear your stories.
For myself, i'm a interoperability engineer at a medical company (Philips) which have a broad scale of medical imaging products such as MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear. ASP programming is just a hobby for me and learned it myself with Trial & Error. Therefore i always wonder why people are sending threads so easily....Just try the code...when there's an error, adapt it and try again and again and again...... On the other side, we shouldn't have work at the asp forum, so its ok... ;-) |

I am currently the lead developer for my company which is a large money management firm. We develop all of applications in-house with the exception of our trading system which is outsourced.
I always liked working with metal so I would like to be a machinist. I've been in the IT industry for 8 years now and I'm getting pretty bored with it. I'm too old (31) now to go through an apprenticeship, so I guess I'm stuck with it. |
